Starting my suboxone treatment mondayt

Well after all these failed attempts of getting clean, I am finally choosing to go the medicle route. I went to my couselour last night and she is strongly recomending this type of treatment for me. I know the effects and the risks of suboxone but right now its giving me hope. Im doing things right this time no more shortcuts, Ive seeked therapy to help with the mental part, im being totally and brutally honest with myself no more lies! and NA is becoming a regular daily thing for me. Is there any advice anyone can give me about suboxone and whats coming to me down the road? it will be much apreciated. Much love

I am going on my 4th week of sub and feel so much better.  I don't have depression, drug seeking behavior, cravings, etc. whatsoever.
You will see - it's way worth it.  I couldn't stay sober for anything - and I felt like such a weak loser because of that.  Now, I've got my life back.
I'm so proud of you.  There is a light at the end of this 24 hr. w/d. My w/d was so much easier knowing that I was going to get help very shortly.  And it was everything the dr. told me it would be.
I'm going to be on sub for 6 months, been going to counseling, 12 step meetings and reaching out for support.  I have hope again.

Well, I am beginning the 24 hour wd now so I can go take my first medically supervised suboxone tomorrow morning.  I am scared, excited, hopeful.  I will go to meetings and I too would like to do the quick taper.  I am done with all of this.

If you're doing a 28 day taper..then get your butt into NA or AA meetings every single day. It will increase your success rate by a huge amount.

Man thank you all for my great advice everybody! Yea im not lookin forward to the 24 hours of withdrawl lol but hey its for the better. I will deff keep posting and let everyone know how it is going. I was talking to the counselour at the clinic yesterday and I might be doing a 28 day program so tapering should come pretty quick. I dont plan on using sub for a long time just due to how hard it might be to come off of. Im just ready to stop using these nasty drugs its getting me nowhere obv. Thank you all for the great support and everyone else keep pushing we can beat this addiction together. Emmas mom, thank you for the invite to PM if I need to talk I apreciate it and will take up on that offer a couple time. Ga guy you seem like you prolly have the most ecperience with sub so I will be asking a lot of questions if you dont mind when Im doing this treatment. Much love

I agree with most of what you say except for the twice a day dosing. The long half-life of Bupreorphine makes twice a day dosing irrelevant. Plus, it's addictive behavior..and, that's something you must break. Take your entire dose at one time unless it's prescribed for pain.

This is the kind of information I need.  I take my last pill tomorrow night and stay off for 24 or more hours and go back to the doctor tuesday morning to start suboxone.  I am a mommy of two wonderful kids and I am ready for this ride to end.  I didn't mean for it to start.  We all need to keep in touch and encourage and help eachother.  GA man I hope you can stick around.  Where can I find the thread with the sub info?  thank you.

Yeah I second ga Guy's advice.  There is no need to take high doses, it is just a waste of money and it will get you addicted faster.  After the first day or two, which is the tough transitional period, 4 mgs. in the morning and 4 at night worked for me.  I've read where doctors will put people on over 32 mgs a day!  So clearly some of these people are willing to hurt you to increase revenue.

Hi Dallas - congratulations, you are making progress.  I have followed your posts for the past month or two and while it has been a struggle, I think that you are going the right route.  Suboxone does have it's place and it can be very effective in treating opiate addiction.  People are hard on suboxone because it is an opiate and it can be a challenge to taper from, but when all other attempts have failed, suboxone is a great option and it does work.  I am a walking success story for sub - even though I had to get medical help to quit taking it. Take it one step at a time.  Listen to the recommendations of others on here who have experience with sub.  Ga Guy is correct - get some of the other issues worked out with therapy and NA and when you can stand on your own without the sub, then work on tapering off and moving on.  Keep posting here, we all want to celebrate your success with you.

My best advice is to take the Sub until the meetings and therapy give you a chance at staying clean. Also, there are reasons to take 16-24mg initially, but anything over 4-6mg is usually a waste over time and just perpetuates the "more opiates the better myth:. So, after you feel level in your mental state, get your dose as low as you can daily. It will make tapering down easier. When you get ready to come off the Sub, there are ways that makes it MUCH more easy. Let me know when that happens and I can help. Good luck, it sounds like you're doing Sub correctly.

Hi!  I rarely ever post here but I wanted to encourage you because this board is very anti-suboxone at times.  I have been on subutex since December 16th and it has changed my life!  I was taking 30 norco or percocet 10/325 daily along with 10 soma.  I tried to quit CT so many times and failed.  It was subutex or die.  My initial appointment was great and I started my induction at home.  I actually inducted and went to work after!  The first week you may be really sleepy at times and I know my anxiety increased a lot.  Once you find your dose it is wonderful.  You do not feel high, you just feel normal.  I am starting to taper down now.  My starting dose was 24mg and I am at 16 now.  PM me and I can give you another board of all sub users are they have a wealth of information and support, plus I will help you in anyway I can.  When you do decide to taper down it does not have to be a painful process.  99% of people I know who have gotten off subutex were able to do so without many side effects.

This will be a wonderful starting point for you to regain your life and lose your addictive behaviors.

Love,
Emmas Mom

Congrats on your decision.  I just started sub 2 days ago after repeated attempts of quitting myself.  It was the best decision I have made so far.  Since I don't have much time under my belt at all I don't have much advice.  The one thing I did want to share was my ride to my sub appointment and the night before.  Since I had to be in withdrawal 24 hours which totally stunk obviously, numerous times I thought about canceling my appointment and rescheduling just so I could take my pills and feel better.  DON'T DO THAT.  Also, on the ride there, I started thinking what if it doesn't work.  I cant take my normal pills for 3 days! and I will be sick, I nearly chickened out.  DON'T DO THAT either.  I am so glad I didn't listen to those nasty little thoughts in my head because after my very first dose I was pleasantly suprised.  I felt better then I even expected to feel.  I think you will be amazed, and after your appointment be asking yourself why didnt I do this a long time ago.  So I guess my best advice is ignore your addict talking to you and follow through, you will be so glad you did. 24 hours of withdrawal is nothing compared to the relief that is coming your way.

Good Luck & God Bless!
