Staying clean from Methadone

I have been taking Methadone for 1.5 years with my highest dose of 70 mg. I tapered down to 5 mg then jumped off. That was 4 weeks ago but I've been using Oxy about 20 mg a day for the withdrawal pain. My question is how long will my withdrawal last if I quit using Oxy right now? Also, will I feel just the Oxy withdrawal or will the Methadone still be lingering around in me to cause withdrawal from that as well?

Wow you guys are awsome! Thanks for the help. I respect what people have to say on the sites more than the doc's at the Methadone clinic. The doc's at the clinic just crush all hope of staying off Methadone, they say to take it for life. I'm so glad that I got of the dones on my own terms. Thanks again, I learned lots from your posts!

I agree a good three months before, you start to feel good, the one thing you should not do, is replace the methadone with anything else what so ever, not even weed or booze, especially another opiate. When I came of methadone it talk me at least three months to sleep and more than one year before I slept really well and that was with a .lot of exercise and good food. That is my own experience, it is different for every body. Never take any form of sleeping medication too. Happy Harry

HI ...  you need to get off the oxy b/4 you get strung out on it its never a good idea to try to beet narcotic withdrawals with another narcotic as for methadone withdrawals your past the physical part now its the post withdrawal you have to deal with...its different for everybody but 60 to 90 days is typical I was on 150 for 6 1/2 yrs for me it was 90 days b/4 I started to feel well the forst month is the ruffest then you slowly get better.....I recommend whey protein shakes
there loaded with vitamins and essential amino acids as well as the protein all of witch the brain needs to heal...you can pick up a 2lb can at walmsrt for 15 bucks the chocolate flaver is good you just mix it with milk....I only wish I found these earlier on....just know eventually you will get better but not untill you quite putting narcotics in your body you need to clean out al the artificial endorphins in order for your body to begin to produce its own then you will start to feel better I wish you all the best with your recovery keep posting for support good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

Methadone withdrawal for me lasted 4 weeks before it BEGAN to subside. Oxygen withdrawal lasted 6 days before it began to subside. Methadone was hell on earth for me. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Depending on who you talk to or what you read, the conversion is either 1:1 or 1:1.5. So,you're taking WAY more oxy to cover that 5mg of Methadone.

That being said,I agree with petroglyph in this situation. All opiate withdrawal is unpleasant;you're going to feel bad no matter what.

Length of withdrawal can somewhat be determined by the amount of the drug and the length of time using.  So, a year and a half on Methadone plus however long you were on other stuff. It's sure going to be longer than a week.  There's no quick fix to feeling better. You need to give it time and do everything you can to restore your health.

Try now to taper down a bit from the oxy and that will give you an idea of how you'll feel when you stop completely.

Good luck!

Good job gettin down to the 5mg. I'm to lazy and unsophisticated on the web to look up the conversion table from methadone to oxy, but I'm pretty sure you went up in dosage. That's probably why it helps with the wd's from the 5's. I don't know that there's any darn differance in what withdrawals from any opiate is compared to another, for me they are all pretty unpleasant. Hopefully others that know better will see this and post. It get's into 1/2 life and technical stuff, but to me it's all the same. It will be hard to tell which is which, if things get dicey. Good luck
