Still going but?

85 days today, everything is really great but I still am having trouble having bowel movements. That has been going on since May or early June. I drink Metamucil 2 tumes every day I also eat fiber and eat activia, I know its possible to have to much fiber just cant figure out what is too much. The worst part of it is the bloated feeling but I can live with it. Has any body else ever been constipated this long? I also have hip pain that is also bearable but when it all goes on at the same time it sort of gets on my nerves. I know I should see a Dr but I already have an appt for Oct 18 . Dont really want to sound like I complaining cuz Im not just telling it how it is, otherwise life is great been going to meetings spending time with kids and grandkids just plain having fun. Just right now got a call changing my Dr appt to Oct 21 that is a bummer, well I have to live with that to.Well anyway God Bless u all and have a good day, I am in this late Calif sun.

Good one. How could I have forgotten that? It was something I always used in an emergency too! Expensive though. I haven't needed it since I started drinking the v8 daily.

A high fiber diet is really good way to get your bowels on track, but make sure you watch your water too. I was told to drink at least 2 liters of water to help break up all the fiber, if you don't you can easily make yourself constipated. Personally, I really hate taking stool softeners. So when I have a slow couple of days I typically go for 100% prune juice. 1/2 a liter gets me moving in under 12 hours. It might also be worth while to take acidophilus and bifidus pills. They will help give your gut good, healthy bacteria that may help prevent further problems.

The hip pain can easily be caused by pressure from the constipation, so it should go away when the constipation gets better. Talk to your Dr. if it doesn't.

Drugs can really mess up your insides so you should bring this up with your Dr. and make sure there was no lasting damage. I'm not saying there is, but it's a possibility. Also they might be able to give you a better idea about the amount of fiber you should have in your diet.

Also don't wait too long. The longer your constipated the worst it's gonna be.
Good luck!

I used to have that problem for years, mostly because of the oxy I was on.
Even after it was a constant off and on problem.

I started using flax seed fiber and put it on everything I could. Cereal in the morning, in chili, even on a steak along with the usual spice rubs.
I also used that Metamucil  stuff in every water bottle. I found with the flax seed fiber and drinking a lot of v8 juice and increasing my veggie intake, lots of steamed near raw broccoli and cauliflower, raw carrots regularly, and things finally went back to normal, No more grunting out golf balls.

There are also some "natural" remedies you can try, but I didn't have much success with those, and I can't remember what they were called. some red gel cap looking stuff. Root juice from something or other that
high mountain Japanese monks use or something, LoL! Who knows with that stuff.

Hope you find a solution, I know how it feels.

Hi there! I don't really know how long it takes to get your innards right after quitting drugs, but it's almost been three months now, and to me something ain't right. Unless you had a longstanding problem with this even before you used, I'd think you'd be pretty much back to normal by
now. How's your diet? Plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grain? Metamucil is fine up to a point, but a good diet is so much more effective. That, and especially a good fluid intake. Water if you like it, juice or tea if you don't. And the best product I recommended for my patients is Colace (docusate sodium is the generic, chemical name). They also make Peri-Colace, which has a gentle laxative with it. Pericolace shouldn't be used except if you have a real problem; the regular Colace is best for you. What docusate does is pull water from your body into the gut to keep the forming stool soft. You take one every 12 hours to start, and when you get a little too loose, cut it back to one a day or stop it. Any store has it. Buy the generic, it's cheaper.
And I am so glad you are seeing the doctor. If you are still having bloating, constipation, and that "hip pain", and you are doing everything right, you've got to go. If it were me, I'd call the office and get that appointment made as soon as possible. If you are still having problems by Monday, please call them and get them to get you in right away. It might be something other than constipation, and that doctor needs to know about your symptoms, whether you share your drug history or not. Hope you get more comfortable soon!

That's hard to say sweetie because Chinese Medicine isn't that cut and dry. Not sure where you live but can you get to a homeopathic store or a place like Whole Foods. They usual carry herbs for constipation. Some places will even do a mini consult with you.
Let me know what stores are around you?
