Still struggling with this.

Okay, here I am again,  I have been taking loratab 10 since 2004 for back pain and now shingles,  I have always gone to my dr got my script and said nothing but the outbreaks shingles seem to be more often and worse so I said something to my dr, he started to write me a script for morphine but I can't take that so he wrote me a script for methadone.! It scared and I told him, he told me to try it so Friday I called his nurse and said I was concerned about taking it , she said to try it over the weekend so Saturday I did and it made me so sick , so I was sick and in pain.. I'm being to think that the pain meds are making the pain worse . I was in bed most of the weekend. This is crazy and not the road I want to go down.. Going from loratab to mothadose. I have been trying to quit the loratb for months I take one to three a day, but I want to really quit the pain meds just not sure where to start. And I'm scared I know how bad I felt this weekend. ..

I understand your fear of the pain - that was a big deterant in keeping me on hydros for longer and the fact that I knew my body was physically addicted to them.  I went from 4 a day to 3 down to 1 then I stopped.  The withdrawal is awful for 2-3 days and then it gets a little better each day.  There are other medications out there to manage your shingles - have you tried valtrex or acyclovir?  There are medications for nerve pain.  I think you should speak to your doctor about a plan to get off if you feel you can, there are meds that will help.

For me personally, I've lived with chronic pain for years and the fear of how I would feel without the pills was worse than what I am actually experiencing.  My pain is still there but I had gotten use to my dosage of hydros and they weren't working anyway and I was in pain and tied to these dang pills.

I know the shingles are soooooo painful but I would definitely check out your options and try to get them under control via a suppressant.  Best of luck.
