I can so relate to how you are feeling...I've been depressed myself lately for same exact reason....I was always a person that worked out hard, was very into physical fitness. Now it's a struggle when I do a simple beginner workout, if I feel well enough even for that. I know I should be grateful if I can exercise at all, but I am down on myself. I'm a small framed person, so my friends don't understand when I complain, but I'm not strong at all right now.
I too removed all the aggravating foods and I will try not eating any nuts, seeds too. Scary my Percocet addiction covered up so many symptoms and now I'm dealing with this angry body!
Thanks for the words of support. Feeling a bit better day by day. I find I get horribly depressed when all I can think is what a shadow of myself I am. I'm a long way from being the competitive surfer of my younger days. That was before the Oxy too, and it's a few years down the track now so that feeling certainly hasn't lessened.
Anyhu's, changing my diet most definitely helped a lot. My ulcers have been tested but came back with no bacteria showing (they've been bleeding for about three years now also) so i'm just avoiding everything that irritates them now. Stopping the oxys has made my body realize exactly what hurts so I've removed a few more things since then too (mainly milk and chocolate)
I'd recommend trying the "no grains/nuts/legumes and seeds" diet if able to, as it was described to me that these are quite scratchy going through the system and will irritate an already inflamed intestinal wall.
Hi jethro, I myself had TERRIBLE stomach issues , much like you described. I would have the runs for days..painful. I went on the BRAT diet just to regulate myself, and it did help, although I am still up and down with my stomach. I'm never "normal". I do think diet can straighten it out once your body gets used to it. I think you got excellent advice in previous posts, I just wanted to offer you support and let you know you aren't alone with this problem..and I'm on day 46..hope you feel better soon!
Hello Jethro. Congrats on your clean time. I have severe IBS and chronic peptic ulcers, so I understand all too well. I am on day 80 off of 5/500 hydros on and off up to ten a day for a year and a half. I had these issues way before that. The meds will exacerbate it. When I was detoxing the body aches were so bad and I took Aleve. I ended up with bleeding ulcers. My IBS was worse though I was barely eating anything....I can say now my IBS is better, but I am Vegan, so that has helped me before the detox and after...eating very clean and listening to what irritates your stomach helps with IBS. as far as the ulcers limit ibuprofen, caffeine, alcohol, and smoking. Make sure to get tested for h pylori if you have chronic ulcers. It is a bacteria that is now known to cause most ulcers, though mine are strictly from NSAIDS....good luck and I wish you the best!
I'm on probiotics, though I have to avoid all grains/seeds/nuts/legumes, not siliac, but those feel like sand paper going through me (paleo diet and a bit from 'FODmaps' is what i'm following).
Unfortunately my doctor desn't seem to able offer any meaningful help, which is why I was originally put on oxys I believe. I've had the most help from a friend with a dark light microscope and a pranic healer (similar to Reiki). Though Doc did eventually diagnose my ulcer there's not much he could do aside from giving me antacids (which to be honest do not help very much and i'd rather not take them as it feels like they make the constipation worse). Diet is how I'm treating this currently.
It's good to hear that at 2 1/2 months you're feeling better, some light at the end of the tunnel. Heck it's such a long one though sigh. I guess this is maybe more of a pain management question than an addiction question now, though I feel like experiences from addicts are helpful to hear as it's more specific to myself.
I would definitely check with your dr. about this. I do suffer from IBS, and when I went cold turkey off hydrocodone, it really exacerbated it. I am at 2 1/2 months clean and feel about normal, or as close to it as someone with IBS can feel! I have been doing probiotics and trying to do a lot of whole grain, high fiber foods. That seems to help me. As far as the ulcers go, it's probably better that you stopped the pills. They can certainly cause and inflame ulcers. I hope that you and your dr. can come up with a plan for you so you can get some relief. Congratulations on 30 days! That is great. Continue treating yourself well and I bet that you start to feel better very soon!
Does your doctor know you have come off the pills? I would make an appt with him and discuss this if you havent. Hope you get to feeling better~
