Sub Withdrawal

If you only stay on sub for 2 weeks and taper down to about 1 or one half mg before you jump off, what are the withdrawal effects?  I am scared.  Ladybrock

Hi I started taking subs in June to get off roxies, I had no idea what subs were about. I was just being stupid and listening to my dealer. Little did I know she was going to get me addicted to a worse drug. How many MGS of sub were you taking? There is alot of help on this site, I am tapering right now I'm on 4mgs.

I was on morphine sulphate 90mg plus 5 7.5mg of vicodin a day wanted to quit so doctor prescribe suboxone 16 mg a day i only took 4 mg for a month, way too expensive without insurance, with meds and doctor appt every week plus mandatory counsling comes to about 900 a month and im unemployed with no source of income. so out of sheer determination im on day 6 of nothing can anyone tell me how long i will suffer? i was only on subone for one month and on very low dose.

I have been an addict since I was 15yrs old. I started with speed, next alcohol, then pills. I took vicodin (and anything else I could find) for two years until I did the suboxone 2yr plan. I originally went to a rehab for ten days or so and they tapered me..I ended up relapsing two weeks later. The emotional more than physical was to much to handle. Six months later...rehab again, same program...same results. Six months after that I found my doctor who helped me for two years. Today is my 7th day w/o suboxone. I feel sick to my stomache, but its not horrible. I'm tired and have diahrea still, however imodium helps. I smoked pot the last two nights to sleep, but Im not sure the paranoia was worth it. Ive never liked weed and I kinda freaked but slept. I dont recommend drug use to help with withdrawals Im just being honest, hopefully I wont be so stupid tonight. Now I'm not tring to be vulgar but the leg cramps suck even with marijuana and I have found that an orgasm can equal sleep. Everything is coming back to life and my nerves are frazzled but I would do it all over the same with the subs. Ive had the time to get some real healing under my belt. Yes I have been on a drug still but not in the same uncontrollable way I was. I have two kids, am a single mom, worked 40 hours a week and delt with alot of heartache and the suboxone helped me through a time in my life I couldnt handle. I prayed to God everyday and He has never given me more than I can handle. Its my time to come off all of it and its not easy but a few months of hell compared to a lifetime of HELLISH ADDICTION is worth it.  I might feel different if this hangs on another month but Ill keep you posted. PS Without my higher power, aka Jesus, I would not have made it to where I am today. Good Luck all

I agree with Refusing 100%. And for your Dr...... You would end up with a 10x worse problem in two years than you have right now with that plan. I ended up on suboxone for 2 years and If I had to do it all over knowing what I know now I would do what you are doing or just CT from my DOC. Hope it works out good for you and best of luck!

I am very glad to have found this site. I hope someone reads this. I was on lorcet 180mg day for about yr, 1/2 and I went to rehab and detoxed real real bad. I was actually feeling good around day 12. But I ended up relapsing and repeating my mistakes. Then I found a suboxone doc. and that was new to me. Anyway he had the 2yr plan for me. I tried to quit my subs several times bc I was feeling so good, but always ended up back on them. But I have went from 90 a month to 30. Now my insurance company had changed their policy to where I have to have a prior approval. so basically this is 24 hrs after not having any meds. I am in  bad shape. I had no idea I would withdraw from my suboxone. These withdraws are not as severe as the lorcet but are bad. To those of you out there my advice is if you take subs, get off them quick. At first it was a godsend for me, but going threw withdraws all over again is just not worth it.

I went to detox on March 13th, 2009 and left on the 4th day of treatment. I was detoxing from herion, with the aid of methadone. I left detox on 15mg of methadone. I haven't used herion since but I have been taking sub to feel better first I started on 8 mg a day(2mg's 2x's daily) I didn't know sub was that addictful. After about 9 days on 8mg's I noticed when I didn't take sub I didn't feel good. I clled a sub Dr. and found out I was addicted. I told the Dr. I didn't want to be in sub and could they help me get off the Dr. told me to come to an appt tomorrow and she would put me on the clinic. Again I don't want to be on sub so I begin taking 2mg's for 1 day felt great then 1mg it lasted about 5hrs. i've been sick ever since not bad but im not turning back and to hell wit that dr. I've been reading and you all have helped me alot 1 and half day off sub

Your brain/receptors do not heal or fix themselves while on suboxone.  In fact sub stays in your system for so long, you body actually stops producing because there is no down time on the sub and no need to produce endorphins.  I am learning that the most important thing for recovery is support and owning your addiction and getting real help from real people and places like this forum.  Your drug seeking behavior does change, at first life becomes what you preceive to be normal.  However after extended time, you are addicted to the sub.  You need the sub.  The sub owns you.  Very quickly suboxone becomes your drug of choice not even because you like it (most of us didnt like our painkillers at the end either) but because you need it.  People don't generally get 'high' from it (some do though) however it has the same effect inside your body and your brain reacts the same way and you become reliant on it.  The wd from long term use is not something I would wish on my worst enemy.  And I am just realizing now that this is not a 2 week thing, a 30 day thing, this is going to take months and months to get right again.  Any step we make to getting clean is a good one.  I will not take that away from sub-however using it does come with a price for most.

I have learned alot about this sub and stuff from a doctor friend of mine here....methadone is not legal for a doctor to give except for pain..it is federally regulated and a doctor must use a diagnosis of pain to prescribe methadone..hence the govt makes the money off of methadone treatment...cheap drug...sub on the other hand is allowed by licensed dotors who took the course to prescribe out of their office..and they entice them to take this course cos they make a killing off of it...here the going rate in my city.... right at 600 dollars when said and done to get on it///that is not including the med/and the doctors do not take insurance...then 300 dollars for 4 months...then 200 dollars for the remainder of ur sub time just to write u a scrip each month.....geez..unless it is a doctor with morals it would not be lucrative to get you off of it quickly here

shel,
She can get recovery care regardless of whether it on sub or not .she will have to deal with PAWS on or off the subs as well.recovery care is very important to prevent relapse but it does not have to be do with the aid of suboxone that is a personal choice she has chosen short term use .

I have been off suboxone for 3 days now. I was it for i year. Went from 8mg down to 2mg very slowly. Just wondering if anyone had any feedback one when I should start to feel the withdrawals symptoms. the waiting is killing me.

Rapid detox tapers are not sufficient treatment for the brain disease of addiction. Detoxification is only the first step of a recovery, removing the opiates from the body does not do anything to treat the brain disease of addiction. Changes to the structure and function of the brain due to addiction may persist for months and if not treated usually result in relapse. This does not eliminate the craving, nor does it address the problems that lead to the addiction in the first place, unless psychosocial care is employed after the actual detoxification. There is credible data that shows reasons not to use rapid detox.

I have no experience with Sub but I have read other post here and it seems to me that the people that wean therselves off of Sub as fast as they can have the best success.  Even if you are taking crumbs at at the end.  Please do post your experience it will be so helpful!

Hi Ladybrock ---  I totally agree with what Refusing told you ----   If you are able to let it go in two weeks, you may just get around the horrible W/D's from Sub.  I know from her posts that Rufusing was on it a long time and I used it for 3 weeks but was still having horrible W/D's a whole month after quitting the Sub -----  I hope you will stick to your plan --  You can do this - - many others have --  Please keep posting as it will be good for you and many others who are also trying to kick this monkey off their backs.  They need to hear what you have to say.  Wishing you all the best.

It KILLS me that the docs want people to stay on sub long term.  Please do not take that advice.  It is a huge mistake.  Good for you in taking only 6mg when he advised you to take much more.  It is such a strong and powerful drug and after 1-2 years on it, it will have such a hold on you, you will wish you never heard the name suboxone.  Use it as a tool-exactly like your doing-and come off as quickly as you can.  Way to go... I am so proud to hear when people take control of their addictions and go with their gut when sometihing doesnt seem right - like 24mg of sub for 1-2 years!  You are totally doing the right thing.  Dont be scared... if your on day 5 and plan a very quick taper, chances are you shouldnt have such a bad experience with it.  From all the the posts Ive read on sub and my own personal experience with being on sub for almost 2 yrs, the one thing i can say for certain is the least amount of sub for the least amount of time is the best way to go.. Good luck and keep us posted.

I was on percocet about 150 mg per day.  The sub is from a doc, but he wanted me to start out on 24-32 mg and wean down over a 1-2 year period.  I started on it 5 days ago at 6 mg and have moved to 4 mg - plan to do 3 for 2 days, 2 for 2, then 1 for 2 and maybe a half every other for a feew days.  What sort of problems will 'i have.  I feeel great right now on day 5 at 4 mg of sub,  This is scary, but what the doctor wanted me to do is crazy.  Lady Brock

Hi Ladybrock --  I think the faster you come off of Sub  the better -----  Perhaps Sub is appropriate for Heroin or Methadone users but from my own experience (Oc's) and the others who have posted on this site, it was a far worse addiction than our DOC.  I hope you will stay on here and post  your own experience --- you could be a big help to others who come after you.  It would help if you shared what your were on and how long and how much.  I wish you all the best.
