hey .. i think meant by feel 'normal' was that this is his first time admitting their problem and there are others out there just like us .. not in the sense of taking suboxone .. i could be wrong, but thats how i read it ... sorry ... ;-}
i wouldn't say it makes you "normal" I felt dizzy and buzzed like i took a bunch of cold medicine for the first 3 days.. As addicts we have a very disorted perception of what "normal" is...
Makes you feel normal, no matter what level you are on.
To all of you, Thank You for answering my question, the information, and for all your time. My printer is out, so I am going to have to write it all down. But I have found a few sites to read and show my husband. Then maybe he will be opened to getting of meds. Thanks again, and have a beautiful day.
God Bless,
Tobybear
hey there .. go to either one of these web-sites to get more information on the suboxone .. www.suboxone.com or www.naabt.org. if you are interested in finding a dr, put in your zip code and you should be able to find one in your area ... call around though to diff offices and do some price checking ... some drs charge WAY too much, which is total b.s. in my opinion ... anyways, i hope you find what you are looking for ... good luck to you! ;-]
Well, you got a lot of good info. here.
I used Sub for 16 days. I used it short-term to ease the w/d's because I have other medical conditions. Because I used it only a short time, I was able to avoid the w/d's from the pain meds. I began weening off the Sub on day 3 and went down from there.
You may not know, but not any doctor can prescribe Sub. You will have to serach for a certified doctor in your area, who can prescribe the meds. The doctors are expensive, and most do not take insurance. The meds themselves are also expensive.
Do your homework, and any further questions, please feel free to ask.
Take care.
FLaddict posted some info about Sub in a string I started on 10/04/07 titled "I got off Sub, and so can you". It was all info I never got when I started a Sub program, and if it's accurate it seems like something patients should all be made aware of when they first start taking Sub. What she says seems to make sense, and she claims to have done a lot of research into Sub. If it's true its important to know so that people don't get strung out on Sub by taking it for too long. My experience was that once you're addicted to Sub it's not an easy thing to get off.
There are plenty of posts on Suboxone on this forum. All are very informative. You have to scroll back a day or two or keep going back untill you find them. There is a search box on this website, type Suboxone in it or Subox or Sub and you will get results from this addiction forum.
Suboxone came out in US about 4-5 years ago. It has been on market in Europe much longer than that. It was primarily developed (i believe) for opiate dependance (opiate maintenance). However, doctors and clinics here in the States use it for other reasons also- Such as short detox methods from opiates and aslo in pain management.
Suboxone is an opiate, however it will not allow your nerves opiate receptors to recieve any other opitate drugs (percocet, hydrcodone, methadone, morphine, darvocet). That is why it ia used to treat opiate dependancy, so the person being treated cannot get high off other drug (opiates) while using Suboxone. Also Suboxone has a celing effect. After so many mg (24mg or so, not sure) you cannot get any higher.If you take more then prescribed you could have a adverse reaction. Suboxone is a schedule 3 drug, same schedule as Vicodin. Morphine, oxycodone, methadone, demarol, adderol, are schedule 2. Meaning schedule 2 is described as being more addictive. You take Suboxone by placing a dissolving Tablet under your tongue. It is meant to be prescribed for long or short term opitate dependancy treatment. Some patients have been on it for years. Suboxone takes away the cravings of wanting to take some kind of a pain narcotic. It releives anxiety associated with cravings. It does have some side effects also.
P.S. my info is based on my exeprience with the drug. I am not a health care professional or a Doctor or a pharmacist. Some of my info might be incorrect. You need to check with professionals or go to officila websites which specify the exact nature of this drug.
Well then it blocks the effect of getting high.woulden't it?. I am on it and thats exactly what it does.
there is alot of good information that you can get by googling "suboxone". It doesn't exactly BLOCK the effect of getting high off the painkillers but it will help mimic the effect of opiates while going through withdrawal *just without the high part
