Suboxone Question / Need Help!!! Please help me!

by rickabc123, Oct 06, 2009 08:48AM
Hi,
I have been on oxycontin 240mg 3 times per day for 3 months.  I need to stop!

I went to a doc and he prescribed me suboxone.  He told me to wait 24 hrs from my last dose of oxycontin.

I can go about 8 hrs but then I start to feel bad.

What can I do to help me go the full 24 hours?

What can I take?  I think he said I can take anything over the counter...but I am not sure what to take.

I dont think I will be able to sleep either. Should I just stay up the whole time and wait the 24 hrs and then take the suboxone pill?

Also, is it hard to ween off of suboxone?  will I be on it the rest of my life, or will I be able to ween myself off of that?

What is harder to ween off of... oxycontin (240mg 3 times per day),
or suboxone?

Also he told me to take 1 suboxone pill.  I think it is either 5mg or 8mg. It is the orange pill.  he told me to put it under my tongue.

Will 1 pill help me? or will I need more?

Thanks and PLEASE HELP!

I have gone 6 hrs without nothing and dont knwo what to do to go the full 24 hrs! Please help and let me know what I should take once I feel bad!

Thanks!

That is 720 ml of oxy a day THAT IS A HUGE AMOUT if your doctor said 24 hours .I would wait 24 hours if you dont wait long enough and start sub you will go into some pretty nasty precipitated WDs.
As for whether that will be enough you have to  get this info from your doctor sub pills as far as I know dont come in 5mg they do come in 8 .It sounds like you have alot of questions I would highly suggest you have your doctor answer before you take the sub .Like how long are you going to be on it ? Make sure you are completely informed before you take sub .

Avsig is right, 720mg is a huge dose of oxy and you must wait until you are in withdrawl before you start on suboxone.  I took suboxone for years and it worked great for me, but it is very difficult to taper off of if you take long term.  In your case though with the oxy dose you are on, you may need to take if for a litte longer.  8 mg seems like it may be too low for the dose of oxy you are on too - most people starting while coming off a high amount of opiates are put on 16 - 24 mg - they are 8 mg tablets.  I cannot give you advice on the right dose for you, I would recommend that you speak to your doctor about this.  Also, I am quite surprised that your doctor gave you medication to take home, usually the first dose is taken at th doctor's office under their supervision so they can gauge the right dose from the beginning because in cases such as your, you may need to take several to get the right dose. Asvig was also right about precipitated withrawal if you don't wait long enough between your oxy dose.  The suboxone is very strong and will displace the oxy on your brain - not being a full agonist, it will not give your brain the same satifaction that a true opiate does and since it will be essentially kicking the opaite off the braind and taking it's place, it will put you into withdrawal.  Please talk with your doctor and get some further advice.  Take Care,

There is not going to be much at all thats going to making you feel better you are just going to have to push threw I would not take it before 24 hours .Its going to be a nasty 24 hours but thats it 24 hours . How long does he want you on one pill a day ?

I saw your thread on the other site you posted on. As I'm sure you've seen by now, there are vastly different opinions, advice etc about sub and what is the best dose. I would stay away from the other site until your ready to get off the sub. You should focus on what is best for you right now. Not on what a certain group of people think. It's hard to say how many hours it will take, but given the amount you've been using, I wouldn't be surprised if you were ready within 24hrs. Have you found the oficail website for this type of treatment. If not send me a note and I will provide it for you.....Sid

He NEEDS TO LISTEN TO HIS DOCTOR ....none of us are doctors if his doctors said 24 hours then thats what he needs to do .if the 8 mg does not seem like enough then tell you doctor once you have taken you first dose and see how its going for you .

speaking as a former oxy addict, and in the middle of kicking it cold turkey, i can say that the only thing that helped me was klonopin. it is a muscle relaxant and a benzodiazepene? not sure if i spelled that right. it is similar to what they give you in detox or rehab to help with the withdrawals. It is also addicted, but if your only using it twenty four hours then you don't have to worry about that. Another thing you can try is clonidine, doctors are much more likely to prescribe that seeing as it is non habit forming. Without a doctors help, hot baths help immensely as does lots of fluids, ibuprofen or advil. I'm going to repeat the advice of everyone else on here- if you don't wait at leaast twenty four hours and then take the suboxone, the withdrawals will be much worse and there will be almost nothing you can do about them. But congrats on wanting to get off and good luck!! it is so worth it in the end
