Suboxone Question

Suboxone Question

Hey all..

I have a question here that I need you all to clear up. My brother will be reading this since he isn't sure about Sub. As many of you know, I started my buprenorphine shots and am detoxing now. I was supposed to go to rehab but instead they started me on sub and then I started the bup shots anyway, Kevin's father told Kevin that his dr (oh and he was in rehab) put him on 50 mgs of sub and that he stopped and had no withdrawal. Can you all help me proove to my brother how severely addictive sub is and how extremely high of a dose that sub is. Because I want him to beleive me.

There is no shot he had no withdrawal on 50mgs of sub. I have never even heard of a dr that would prescribe someone 50mgs. They come in 8mg pills. So any help would be great.

thanks all..

Lisa

there may not be too many on with sub experience, but if so just put in what mg your dr put you on and if you stopped if you had withdrawal. Please.

Also, does anyone know if you are in a rehab and you get clean, do they send you home with suboxone?

thats an insane amount. from what I have read theres a ceiling effect with sub, cant remember the number.....think its 24mgs. inother words taking more does nothing more to help.

I would suggest trying one 8mg and if that dont work then try 12-16 mgs the next day.

but I have never been in rehab on sub, I went the methadone route on my own and in the end regretted it.......

Hi Lisa,

Glad to see you back and getting clean.

The ceiling effect happens at 32 mgs. 50 mgs is nuts! It is difficult to do the match with that number.

It has been 21 years since my last rehab and Suboxone was not available then so I am not up on how some treatment centers do it nowadays. I have heard members here say that they went into treatment and were detoxed the first week on Suboxone but have not heard anyone who was sent home with it, but like I said I am not up to date.

There are a lot of members who have Suboxone experience here so keep checking back for responses.

Keep up the good work!!

I have never heard of a doctor putting someone on 50 mgs of sub .I am taking you are taking subutex not sub correct .You have been down this road before tell him how long you want to be on it .Lisas brother sub can be HIGHLY ADDICTING and can be worse then the drug one is coming off of .She needs a good recovery care program and if she is going to use sub she needs a plan to stick to so she can get well.

Thank you all sooooo much for claraifying this for me. <My brother was worried I was not telling the truth about sub and its impact. What a nightmare. I am not on sub Avis, I did the bup shots to come off the sub. Anyway, I will be back on in a little bit, but I truly appreciate you guys helping me.

I'm at day 13 of sub w/d quitting at 4m per day after a year of use. Got a bunch of great info and support here. I still have flu symptoms - but definitely not like last week. There's alot more knowledge here than I have but, just from my experience, I'd keep it really short and a low dose. Maybe withdrawal is a bit easier??  Good luck to you both!

Lisa, what would your brother be using Sub to come off of?  What was his original drug and how much was he taking.  Is he still on it, or did he already quit?  All of these things are important in deciding whether Sub is the way to go, and if it is appropriate, I would recommend extremely low doses for an extremely short time.

Dear Lisa's brother: I was put on Sub after being clean for 3 days from only 30mgs a day of Vicodin.  A few more days, and I would have been home free.  I could have tapered off the Vics, or used withdrawal aids then, such as Clonidine or vitamins.  Instead, I have been on Sub for 2 years, have tapered down to less than 1/4 mg a day, and I am suffering... BAD.  I agree that 50mgs of Sub is unheard of, and kind of makes no sense due to the ceiling effect.  However, I guess it is possible for your father to have felt no withdrawal, whatever he was given, if he was only given one, two, or a few doses of it.  But certainly not long term.

In 2004 i went to my brother for help with my heroin addiction and he bought me 20 8ml subutex,i started taking them and didnt feel bad i just felt emotional so i just stayed in an smoked cannabis.I did stay clean for 9mnth but ended up using again,i then started on 30ml methadone n reduced it to 2ml and then got prescribed 0.4ml of subutex but i stupidly didn't take them.Istarted smoking heroin again which started 3/4 month ago but where i'm from its not even worth smoking at the moment so now i want to take my subutex and get clean again but i dont know whether to take 8 or 10ml.Your brother truelly needs to start lower his dose or he will never get clean from subutex as its highly addictive thats why i'm only going to take them for a week at the most,as soon as the heroins out of my system which will be in about 3days.I do agree with you and also advise your brother to start lowering his dose.I hope all goes well for you and your brother.
