Suboxone for pain management??

Can anyone share with me if suboxone is reaaly helpful in treating severe chronic pain. I've had too many to count pelvic floor surgeries. The original one was the one that has caused the pain and I've been suffering for 5 years.  I'm off the 480mg of morphine and 300 mg of oxycodone a day. I've been off a month. The pain is so strong that I can barely focus on anything else now.  I used to be able to sleep, which I did 16-18 hours a day, because that ws the only way I didn't feel the pain.  Now it's waking me at night.  Doctor suggested we may try suboxone next week. I don't know enough about it and I wonder if anything can combat this horrid pain. I'm so scared of living like this the rest of my life. Sometimes I just feel like giving up.

I have had chonic pian now for 6 yaers. It became a real problem with pian meds because i have an addictive personality.I was on morphine, oxycodone and oxycotin.and because I eventuly wanted to get more,or more than than pain relief.I was injecting tham all. I
put myself into a addition treatment center.they put me on suboxone
first for withdraws but I remain on it for pain management. It does fine most of the time, but when I do something active for even a little while
the pain is right back just as relentless as ever.
But in cobination with muscle relaxers and anti-inflamitories it does help.I thank god for suboxone.I have very little desire to get high anymore.I give suboxone half the cedit.
I still would like to hear more about others and the concept of subox.for pain management, please thank you.

Yeah, it was cold turkey. I was at a detox center so I wouldn't go into cardiacarrest or seize. It was hell, but I made it!  Now I jus need to figure out how to handle the pain that is wuite debilitating. I'm sure a lot of you can relate to that. I wish no one had to live with severe, relentless pain. But I am so glad I found this forum and people to talk to and bounce ideas and emotions off. Thankyou to you all!  Jen

First, congrats on getting off the drugs.  I took Suboxone to get thru withdrawals and had been taking it on an as needed basis for pain but really want to be free of any type of opiate so have not taken any in almost 5 days.  It did help with my pain.  I took 4mg at a time.  Right now I'm taking just Tylenol and I have acupuncture every other week.  I was taking up to 30 Norcos a day and also a lot of oxycodone but not doses as high as yours so I can't say whether or not it would help you.  But, as IBKleen said, it is an opiate.  You should do as much research as possible and make your choice.  Go to naabt.org and read a lot of their information.  Go to the profile on this site of FLaddict as she's done tons of research on Suboxone and has been kind to post it for people.
Good luck = I really hope you find some relief soon.  We all have a right to be able to live without such debilitating pain.

Wow !  that is a heck of an accomplishment to be off a dosage like that.  Did you do it cold turks on your own or taper.........thats amazing.  If you can overcome that hurdle.  I would try the suboxone.  Sorry your in so much pain.  It is such a catch 22.  You were sleeping 16-18 hours a day because of that massive amount of drugs too.  It's your call but i would give the sub a try if its that bad.  I hope you get some relief.

I have heard of several people who us it for pain management , and have been successful. However, please be reminded that it is an opiate and at some point you will need to detox off of it. Do all the research you can before going on the program.

Hey, Welcome to the forum if you are a new comer. Yes it is true that suboxone does indeed work and used as a pain management drug. After nearly a year of oxycontin and norco I had back surgery, The surgery was 60% effective in relieving pain, After surgery my pain M.D. started a taper for the narcotics, but I was not able to stick to the taper schedule so the M.D. who was also able to prescribe suboxone put me on it along with neurotin/Lyrica. and I am happy to report that 8 months later I am a different person in terms of pain and the worry about making my meds last until my next refill. I often forget to take the meds and always have at least 20 subs leftover when it is time for a new refill, I was fortunate that my PM doctor was able to Rx the meds and bill my insurance for the visit and over all management, I see my doc every 3 months as refills are allowed on suboxone and can also be called in. But be careful when selecting a doctor to write for suboxone as it has turned into a real money maker for the doctors who are taking advantage of people looking for the medication, Your scenario is different and is pain related so seek out a pain specialist that can bill your insurance, and make sure the drug is on your plans formulary. If you have other questions email me anytime!----------------------NOAH

i take suboxone for addiction purposes, it does nothing for my pain...BUT, i think when you take it for pain management and not for addiction treatment, it is taken differently. i have heard people say it really works for them. do your research though, learn all you can before you make the decision.
where is notmenow? look him up, i know he takes it for pain management, he would be a good one to talk to, but i have not seen him around...?
