Suboxone question

Can I quit suboxone cold turkey? Mind you I have been taking 2-3 8mg pills a day for about 2 years now. I dont have a script and they cost a FORTUNE! ai have been battling drugs all my life but I had a talk with my father and I promised him I would quit next week and I truly want to! I wanna make him oroud and actually show him a sober me! He hasnt seen that in years! His health isnt the greatest and If anything ever happened to him and I wasnt sober I dont know what the hell Id do! I'm mostly zcared tho because I also suffer from clinical anxiety and i take 40mg of citalopram a day....I havent had an anxiety attack in years but I suddenly feel 1 coming next week!!!

Thank you all so much for the info. I am currently trying to find a suboxone doctor. The only thing I'm nervous about is the cost. I heard doctors who can prescribe you subs usually dont accept insurance and even if they do it is very costly!

I agree with all the others. Make your father proud of progress and explain how you don't want to relapse. I'm sure he doesn't want to see that or you in full blown withdrawal. Take it slow and be strong. My doc says you can get to lower doses faster, but slow down the taper the lower a dose you get to. Good luck and God bless you and your father.

Suboxone is very strong and long acting.  It will typically take 10 days plus to withdrawal from sub.  I doubt that you would be able to go cold turkey off the large dose that you are taking now.  When I stopped taking suboxone, I was only taking 2mg and i had to go through a medically assisted detox to finally get off.  Tapering is a must and pitbullmom is correct, you must get down to the smallest dose possible before quitting or you will be miserable.  best of luck

You are on a high dose of suboxone and you need to taper, tell your dad you did some research and as much as you'd like to stop this coming week you are going to start tapering until you're off so you won't get sick. It would be best if you went thru a doctor who could help you with this process. Good luck to you

Oh yes, you better taper.  I'm doing it now, and believe me you do not want to quit suboxone cold turkey.
