Suboxone

I would like to hear who has tried Sub for w/d from opiates and what your experience was/is.  I am going to a dr. on Friday to get on it.  I can't do this alone.  I have to reach out.

Yeah, I waited the 24 hours to get on the suboxone.  It wasn't fun, but it was on the very tip of the iceberg that was going to happen if I didn't do anything.  I've detoxed cold turkey before from opiates.  It is an experience I wouldn't wish on anybody.  13 days of no sleep and chained to the bathroom.  Not a pleasant picture.  I also didn't tell my wife, and she was furious when I did tell her - not because I was "getting help" but because the suboxone therapy does costs around $300.00 which I just took out of the checking account.  In the long run, I had to go to a treatment center.  When my wife left me, I fell into self-pity and started back on the roxi's.  It's a progressive disease.  I was doing as many roxi's as I was when I was back in my full-time addiction.  It just gets worse, not better. Suboxone doesn't make you feel high or anything (which is a bummer when we're used to getting high from the opiates), but it is a step in curbing the cravings and attempting to get clean.

I just came off of sub less than a month ago.  Read my posts.  I was on it for 6 days after an oxy habit of 220 mgs a day.  Not fun but it made it more bareable.  I took sub too soon and I felt like I was gonna die.  Well would have died if I had more pills around when I took it.  Don't keep it from your hubby.  I kept it from my wife and she found out ON HERE!   We r seeing an addiction therapist now and it's really helping her understand addiction.  As soon as u start sub, catch a NA meeting.  NA saved my life.

Sub has worked for me very well at detoxing but, I never stayed on long enough before I was back to the opiates.  This time I am staying on the sub to stay away from the pills! Your not alone Jen, I am right here with ya doing it to! Day one on sub! Good luck jen, you can do this! The suboxone is a miricale at stoping cravings and even if you try to use on it, it will NOT WORK! lol do not waste your time or money...stay on sub it works but, be careful of its addictive nature

Did you have to be in w/d for 24 hours before you started sub?  I can't handle the w/ds at all.  I was clean for 3 years (alcohol and pills) and then had to have multiple emergency (major) surgeries - the last was in March of '09.  I haven't been able to kick the op's since because of the w/ds and cravings.  I am reading and reading about sub but can't figure if it makes you "feel" anything or just works in your brain and you don't notice the w/ds.  What has been your experience please?  The more details for me the better.  I have a husband who is not supportive, so he must not find out that I'm still using (or using again) and two small children and a teenager.  I can't be down with the "flu" again...
I tried before and couldn't make it to day 2!!!!
Thanks!

Jen - good advice above.  Sub is a very indivdual choice. It can be a great tool, but please educate yourself thoroughly.  A short, fast taper sounds about right if you are ready to quit and *just* want help with withdrawal.  If your a constant chronic relapser and just cant stay clean, maybe stay on it a little longer.  You have to do what is right for you, but long term is is definitely not a miracle drug as far as withdrawal is concerned.  Stay on it for a long time and you will learn a difficult leasson.   In other words, Just be wary - the longer your on it, the harsher the w/drawal will be coming off of it.  Suboxone is an opiate replacement maintenance drug.  I was on it for almost 3 yrs and had an extremely difficult time coming off of it.  Easy to stay clean on it long term, close to impossible to come off of it long term.  Just do your research and decide what is right for you.  Good luck!

Jen, I took vast amounts of opiates including perc's, fetanyl patches and morphine for about 5 years.  After I got my back fixed, I found that I had a strong craving for the drugs even though I didn't need them anymore.  I was afraid of the withdrawals and looked for an alternative to cold turkey.  I tried suboxone, and it really relieved me of my cravings.  In fact, I took suboxone for 6 weeks and tapered off of it.  There were no cravings after the suboxone was finished.  So for me, suboxone was a kind of miracle drug.  I have cold turkeyed from opiates before and it's not a pleasant time to say the least. I would give it a try because the other alternative is awful (either staying on opiates or going cold turkey).

For me sub is a miracle drug. I can't detox without it. It is addictive and u can have worse wd symptoms from subs than from whatever u were on in the first place but my doc set me up with a taper plan. The first day I take 24-32 mg then slowly go down over a week eventually stoping after a week. 2 days after I took my last sub(2mg) I experienced minor wd effects but nothing I couldn't handle.talk with ur doc n see what he says. I have detoxed many times and relapsed obv but I am sober right now n that's all that matters to me. I also see an adiction therapist which helps alot.
