Suboxone

I had a small addiction to pain pills...about a 20-25 mg habit per day on and off for 3 years. So i decided to stop and used suboxone. I had 3 1/2 8mg films and cut them into 6-8 pieces.  I started with 3 pieces per day a week before christmas. I slowly cut myself to 1 small piece per day...and yesterday I took my last piece.  Will i suffer withdraw symptoms? I used a total of 28 mg this entire time...and also how long will it take to be out of my system?

I was searching the house for his....he liked to control me with them...always threatening to cut me off and watch me go through w/d.  Maybe he is a habit I need to kick too .

Oh boy.  Yeah, that's definitely not good, hon.  You're not in an envrionment conducive to getting and staying clean.  I know there's no easy solution in that situation, but if you want sobriety bad enough, you may have to make some really hard decisions.

Your only going to feel as bad as your reading in to right now. I seriously think you will feel the mental effects for about 2 weeks and maybe a little sluggish. Ask your held now, what am I going to do to change this mood today? Your creaking your self out. But you also won't stay off if your husband is still doing them. That's the only real problem you have right now

In all reality pain pills shouldn't be used in excess the way we use them either. But we do so I don't see subs any different.

Does your husband have any plans to quit taking pills?

This addiction doesnt stop once the wd's are over.  Do you have any plans for aftercare?

Subs are a partial agonist, meaning they don't cover the whole receptor. Some of the healing begins while on subs, but there's still a lot of brain chemistry that hasn't started yet. For me the subs gave me a break in craving and helped me believe I could do it. I would say that the majority of acute withdrawal had passed, but I was definitely sick after my last sub. Anxiety, insomnia, and stomach issues. No severe cold sweats or vomiting, which is normal for how much methadone I was taking. I think you will be through the worst of it, but I think within 72 hrs you will have trouble sleeping and eating. I don't think it will be as bad as CT, but you may not feel that way at times. The nutrients mentioned above really help, expecially the minerals and amino acids. Try not to think of how you feel or are going to feel and focus on the life you are gaining. Move around as much as you can, walk, swim, anything to get your blood moving. No matter what happens, you can handle it. Stick around here and really think about who you can talk to when you have a rough day. You got it.

Do you think my w/d from my DOC will be bad and will it start soon? I was only taking around 25-30 mg sometimes less a day...I was just on that amount for about 3 years on and off?

I used subs for 20 days to get off high dose methadone. I'm not sure if I was feeling sub withdrawals or methadone withdrawals. The brain doesn't start to heal until all opiates are out of the system for enough time. I think you're more likely to pick up your DOC withdrawal after subs are gone. I don't think you built a new addiction to subs. I agree with the aftercare and using subs and a complete recovery program. It doesn't have to be prescribed, but I think you will need more than clean time to stay clean. Invent a recovery program. Find 12 step, addiction counseling, talk about it at church, but find something to replace the drug routine with. I like the way you used the subs, but I don't like that you are doing it alone. Get some support before the subs are completely out of your system. Glad you're taking step to get clean, you're on your way.

No. If you took an Oxy right now it would be a waste. You would feel no effect from the Oxy because your receptors are already covered by the Sub.

If you took the Sub to avoid any withdrawal, you're going to be disappointed. Sub only stops withdrawal while you're taking it.    Once you stop...you will have withdrawals.   Don't take any more Sub, okay?  You can get addicted to that, as well. It's all about the habituation...

Personally, I don't think any withdrawal you may have will be that bad. Why not just give it a try and stay close by here for some strong support?

My husband takes pills too....so knowing they are somewhere in my house is driving me crazy...Im still mentally wanna take a pain pill...Im not gonna lie...I miss the feeling..thats why i though sub would be a good idea because i did not feel the "high" ! and I didn't!! I have heard from people that people get a "high feeling" while on them...maybe because I didn't take alot...I've also heard that if I took a oxy right now...it would throw me into withdrawal from that all over again..I really am not very educated at ALL about sub

And if you cut then in the tiny pieces u say u did then you did not up your doseage .

She stayed pretty close to her dosage in this case, thank goodness, but many people make the mistake of taking sub on their own, and have NO idea how srong it is and DO trade off for a much higher dose than they were using originally.  It's very important that people are made aware of just how strong Sub is.  People see low numbers, like 2mg, or 8mg and assume it's nothing.  That's not true.

Look, this could go either way...you may be just fine and I hope you are.  It's just very important that we put GOOD info out there for the benefit of ANYONE reading, and, for one to be TRULY successful, it's best to use Sub properly, under the guidance of a doctor, with therapy, and plans for aftercare.  Getting through w/d's is a biggie and it's one of the things that scare people the most...but one thing I've read on this forum over and over is that GETTING clean is the easy part...STAYING clean is the hard part.

For right now...just get yourself through the next few days, to see if you're gong to have w/d symptoms or not.  One day at a time.  After the smoke clears, please put an aftercare plan in place...whether it be private therapy from an addiction specialist, or NA/AA meetings..something.  It's just so important, as you certainly don't want to have to go through this all over again.  The physical symptoms are one thing, if you have them...but you have to address the mental/emotional and the cravings.

If you DO have w/ds, you're in the right place..for info, compassion and support.  This forum is FULL of people who have walked in your shoes, hon.  Do you have support at home too?  Anyone you can turn to?  That's very helpful as well.  Another great phrase stated here often..."your secrets keep you sick".  If you can confide in one or more people, you increase your chance of long term success.

Please let us know how it's going...hoping for the best for you!

I honestly would not worry about the wds just keep your head up and tell your self that your kids are far more important. Keep busy with your kids and just try to even push out the thought of with drawls cuz I believe the more you think of the wds the more your going to think up a way to get your next fix so u don't w drawl. Every thing will work out just stay positive and tell ur self this is what u really want

Let's sure hope your experience is like kme's, although I would like to say that I don't agree with this kind of usage for Sub.  To be optimal, Sub should be used as a part of a holistic recovery plan...Sub shouldn't be a way to ONLY avoid w/d's.

In order for Sub to be used properly as a tool in recovery, one should do it the right way, at a reputable clinic.  Not putting you guys down, as I realize people do this, but for the benefit of other readers, I wanted to mention that.

My biggest suggestion is not to read other who will tell you how bad it will be because its different for everyone n what we read in to we turn it to. It's going to be a breeze. I am 3 weeks no Oxy and 2 weeks w no pill of ne kind and I feel good. Up n downs are a part of life so it is what it is but its also what u are going to make it as well..

You really would have been FAR better off just coming off your DOC.  Suboxone is a MUCH stronger opiate in comparison.

It's very hard to say what level of w/d's you will have, if any, but if I had to guess, I would say, yes, you will have w/d's. Hopefully they will be very manageable.   Sub w/d's don't typically start right away due to it's long half life..it can take 24-48, even up to 72 hours to start feeling w/d after the sub is d/c'ed.

The best thing you could do is research the Thomas recipe here, it will help ease w/d's to a point.  Don't get stuck in the  trap of continuing to take something else to help deal with w/d's.  DEFINITELY do NOT take anymore Sub, that's only going to put you in a worse situation.

This is why it's so important for people to do their homework about Subs.  You replaced your opiates with a far higher dose of the Sub, comparitively.  To give you an idea, ONE 8mg strip of sub is equal to APPROXIMATELY 100-200mg of Hydrocodone or Oxycodone and 1200 mg of Morphine (by mouth).

Hopefully, you will not experience any w/d's, or if anything, maybe they will be mild.  Best of luck to you..let us know how you're feeling!
