I was under the impression that subutex was used for induction only as it is easily misused. The suboxone is used for long term maintenance due to the naloxone in it. The DEA does not approve of subutex for maintenance and I think we all know why! According to the National Alliance for Buprenorphine Treatment-----NOAH
I agree with ah6767 - I haven't tapered yet but have done a ton of research and belong to several support groups of people who are current and past users. They all say to take tapering very very slow. Down to the point of just a sliver of a pill. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Any advice for when my time comes is appreciated.
suboxone is great! I know many who have been on it long term and short term and have no had a problem stopping the sub alltogether when tapered correctly. Just make sure you go slow!!!!
hey there, I used it for 10 days in june and have been clean since.. I posted a Sub FAQ here a few weeks back that was written by a patient and based of their experience and research that may help you.
If you taper down right you will have no issues getting off of it.. its easy to taper..I made sure I stopped taking it on a Thursday night so that the half life would hold me til the weekend in case I felt any yuckiness.. I did have one day of sweats and some chills but that was it.. I would get some clonidine from the doc to use at the end of your taper and the few days after you stop in case you need it.
And ask any questions you might have along the way hun
I was on Subutex for one year. I know that's longer then they like for you to take it. But that's just what I had to do. But like you I was tired of the addiction. I was on 4mg. a day then the last 2 week's I went to 1mg. A day then I just quit....It was not the easiest thing I have ever done. But I have been clean 23 days today so it can be done. Good Luck to you.
Hello and Welcome to the Forum!
I used Suboxone for 16 days as a detox tool. I worked well for me, although it did make me sick. I tapered down on it and when I went off I had no problems.
You didn't mention how long you have been on them, the amount you or taking, etc. That will determine how you will feel coming off of them.
I recently went from methadone to suboxone. I used the suboxone for 7 days and quit when I completed the 3rd day at 2mgs. I had very, very mild withdrawals afterward. Actually, I am still having them... as expected. They are just so mild in comparison to full blown Earth shaking withdrawals, it really is amazing how well it worked for me.
i am sure someone here can help you...but you may not get any answers for a few more hours, but just come back to check
