Switching from methadone 2 suboxone

I have been detoxing from methadone for almost a year now. My highest dose was 90mg/day. I went down 1mg every 4 days, i am now at 8mg/day. Am i able to switch from methadone to suboxone without waiting 2 days before i make the switch?

It is important that you speak with your prescribing doctor before making the switch. You could easily been thrown into precipitated withdrawal and you will be most uncomfortable.

While talking to your doctor see if they offer any sort of support while you are on Suboxone such as groups or counseling. That will help you be better prepared for when you come off of the Sub.

You should be able to do Sub without having to wait 2 days.

Typically they want you to wait 24 hours to get in withdrawal. The reason isn't to watch you suffer but to see how much Sub it takes to get you back to normal.

Good for you!! Methadone is one nasty, life robbing drug. They dole it out too easily and once your on it, you have to stay on it or get really sick.

You should do well on Sub. You have to get passed the 'I want to feel even better' phase and settle for the 'I don't feel sick' phase. That's probably the hardest part. Congrats!!
