Symboxin

Is the goal of Symboxin to decrease the dose every month so you are eventually drug free? I'm afraid it's just another methadone and my son will end up an 80 year old symboxin junky. What is the cost of the meds?

I know someone on sub due to chronic pain.  She does have a history of addiction and when she found out she had a chronic back condition she was given opiates for the pain.  She didn't like have to take the opiates so she asked to be put on the sub instead.  She doesn't have medical insurance so she is paying out of pocket for this.  However she has reverse lordosis of the cervical spine and she said the condition is irreversible so the pain will always be there and need to be controlled.  When she is able to get health insurance would it be more financially beneficial for her to try the methadone for pain control? Or would methadone be anymore affordable for her now? I'm unfamiliar with the cost of methadone and know that sub is outrageous without insurance, however,  I didn't realize that sub wasn't approved for pain control...Anyone with any suggestions??

u r right in ur assumption for the most part...sub is the new methadone supposedly...the new and improved/glorified methadone ..but in most aspects the same

both can be used short term to help with wds and to get clean with a bit less suffering physically...but mental is the tough part..getting clean is a piece of cake compared to staying clean

both have a long half life and once u step over the edge..it is a tough wd

neither make u super "high" unless abused but give the user a feeling of normalcy

Sub is more expensive but more accessible than meth as methadone is under federal regulation for use for addiction but is approved for pain per MD rx...sub is not approved for pain but u can get it in a drs office and skip the clinic/but u pay as a rule/dearly

sub per mg is more/much more powerful than methadone

methadone is preferred over sub for chronic pain if that is an issue for most

So in essence they r alot alike...methadone was a pain medication in germany before made an addction drug in the USA.but is also approved for pain here...has a bad wrap

Temgesic/sub/ 0.2 mg is a pain medication in Europe and approved as such in europe..the US took the drug at a much higher dose and made it an addiction drug...is delving into the bad wrap zone as if it is on ur pharmacy record u r labeled/methadone is not a label as it is approved for pain as well as addiction/but for addiction only in a clinic

I beleive both drugs have their function in addiction and recovery for those who need it...if i ever had to use long term being a chronic pain patient..i would choose methadone.as i would know i would be addicted either way to something i would have a heck of a time kickinglater ont...so i would choose the one with the higher pain relief potential..that is me and everyone is different...not planning to go there in this life time if i can help it

Be very careful ---  they are similar to the old methadone....optimally they  shouldnt be used for more than 21 days - amd there are differences about that,....... do your homework carefully here .......many bogus sub docs out there just in it for $$$$ -------

Look at med help health pages and archives about suboxone
