Taper Problems

by Emmas Mom, Mar 17, 2008 06:04PM
So, I went from taking 35-40 pills a day and I am now down to 12-14 and I am stuck.  R2R gave me a great taper, but if I go any lower than 12 the withdrawl symptoms are crazy.  I feel like such a baby because when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter I went cold turkey off of the Fentanyl patch, norco, clonopin and xanax.  Great pain management doc to do that to me huh?  I am on such a lower amount of meds now but I am having such a hard time going lower.

Has anyone ever gone cold turkey and worked?  I cannot miss work but I am wondering if this is what I should do.  God bless!

I would just keep tapering, cuz if you can't stand the way you feel at trying to go below 12...you definately arent' going to like the way you feel going ct....just keep dropping the dose..you can do it!!!  YOU will also proabably have to miss work if you go ct.

Keep your eye on the prize....We're here rootin'  for you!!

Drop to your next dose...after a day things will smooth out again as your body adjusts.

.I tapered and it was hard,,,but i thought it was a LOT better than going CT!!!

I agree with toxic as far as the CT thing goes. How long have you been at 12?? Maybe you'll have to ride that dose out for a little but longer before you drop again. Your body will adjust believe me. Its great that you have made it down to 12 from  40!!!! You gotta take a little bit of pain to get your life back and you will! Good luck

ah is probabaly right. just stay at 12 for a bit, try to drop again in a few days.  but if you have been taking that  many pills at some point you are going to have to deal woth some w/ds.  it is not easy to get clean...but you can di this.  keep going

You have came so DARN far from 35-40...I can't tell you enough how proud i am of you, and sorry but because i had not heard back from you i didn't know if you had went through with the taper.

What is your goal quit day?  I tapered/not very good at it but did it/made it...No one told me that I would not feel WDs while tapering...cuz most do...I am glad the people on this forum were honest with me...it is not a pain free ticket out...you will feel it everytime you drop significantly in your dose...I was so tired of feeling bad by the end of my taper that I was sooooooooo ready to quit...and get it over with...tapered til my vacation time got here....so I could chill and quit.....tapering is not a fun thing to do and is very hard for most addicts...you are doing well, actually great to have gotten down to 8....keep tapering...if you get sick of it...CT and get it done..and keep posting

Thanks for all the responses.  I have definetely felt the drops, but nothing too bad.  My appetite is gone and I wake up every morning around 5 for good and at least once in the middle of the night.  I do not have a set quit date in mind.....I have been on pain pills since I was 18 so I am taking it as slow as I need to, I just don't want to make it forever or make excuses!

I am the sole providor for my family so CT is not really an option and I don't want to go the suboxone route.  I am just tired of the merry go round!

R2R-  I tried the taper and miserably failed.  I was so proud of myself for getting so low but I want to finish this madness!  I just can't wait until I am over this.  My anxiety levels have been pretty bad also, but I am managing okay so far.  Thanks for everyone's support!
