Tapering off low dose 5 mg of methadone while pregnant...

Has anyone given birth to healthy baby while taking 2.5mg of methadone a day? I have weaned myself from 20mg down to 10 mg to 5mg and now 2.5 mg over the last three months (when I started taking it to combat w/d from abusing percocet). So far I feel no discomfort. I'd appreciate any advice as I have no one to talk to about this. I'm just very scared for my baby. Just an FYI, I've never done or abused any other drugs and my daughter was born 2 years ago perfectly healthy, I didn't take Anything during that pregnancy.

Oh! Your doctor does know about the methadone right? Some people are embarrassed. Just make sure does know. Becaus don't know about your state but in my state if any drug the dr. didn't know about shows up they can call in DHR or CPS. So make sure they know before. Again good luck.

Everything should be just fine. I know how you feel. I felt nervous and guilty my whole pregnancy. But my little girl just perfect and had so affects later in life from it. Nothing I say will make you feel totally better I just hope I helped some. Good luck.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words! No, I am not taking anything else, just the 5mg and going down to 2.5mg tmrw... I'm praying that my baby will not suffer withdrawals! I feel so guilty and embarrassed. Ive been trying really hard (for 3 mos) to get off of the methadone all together so I hope I'll still feel ok at 2.5mg, otherwise I'll have to go back up to 5mg. Thanks again, this is so nerve racking, I just want it to be over already!

I had my daughter 8 years ago on 110mgs of liquid methadone. She had no problems then or any since. She was born 8 weeks early but not becaus of the methadone. a few women at my clinic have had babies with no problems. The ones whose babies did they were taking other things on the side. As long as that is all you are taking everything should be ok. Good luck.

I will be informing my dr of everything tomorrow. I was just hoping that since I'm on such a lose dose and have only been taking for 3 months, that withdrawal, if any, would be at a minimum....
