Tapering

by LaDee47, Jun 28, 2009 04:08AM
I have been tapering for about 3 weeks. I got down to taking 4 vics a day about every two or so hours. Anyway I feel like **** and cry on and off all day, so today I went back up to six and feel just normal not high but not sick. Does anyone have a good taper plan that they used. I know its hard to taper but I can and I have been honestly! :) It is working except again.... I feel like ****! Except for today when I took the six through out the day. I'am maried and have children so for me I cant go CT. I did for 7 days and could not function at all with no sleep and RLS. I did have a 20 to 30 daily pill habit. So my question is does anyone have a better method of tapering?

Thanks to all

Try dropping down a little slower. Go down to 5 pills a day and make a schedule of each dose and stick to it. If you've been taking a pill every 2 hours, change it to every 3 hours (or better yet, every 4 hours). Stay at each dose level until your body has adjusted to it, then drop down again, but just a little each time. Chances are, you're going to feel some slight withdrawals with each drop, but if you do it slow, it should be minimal.
Good luck.

one pill a week works well if you can as magi said try spacing out the time you take then as well

The problem with tapering -- most report they can't do it -- is feeling like **** when you have a pocketful of pills ... there's always the voice advising you: "Well, you can take just one day off from this; you're doing so well, so why not reward yourself," and then it takes so much to get to that place you're after, you have to get more to continue the torture.

So, keep trying, by all means, but if you're going through months of agony, and you've cut back to a meduim dose, maybe it's time to hide away for five days (better if you can get out and do something, but ... well, you know.) and get it over with.

I'll have to follow my own advice in a couple of days -- I've been trying to wait before the first toot (once you're in, then you have to keep it going -- let me know if I'm telling you something you don't already know), and yesterday was pretty good.

A warning to anyone who's going to use codeine to ease the w/ds -- either wait till you stop, or take it in the evening to replace that last buzz. Tried it in the morning, and it seems to block the effect of oxy a bit when I did my first bit (40mg) of the day.

Still stuck at 120mg; can't seem to get by without that much, and I'm not really getting much  -- party's over -- out of that much, split into three times a day. Also have a real quandary -- sometimes I hate the stuff, particularly the $$$ and the compulsive travel to the source, but if I had a huge supply, I'd probably keep at it. Best to remember that life is going to suck a lot anyway, and this is just about the poorest strategy to avoid that.

I ramble on sometimes ... back to your post, you said you were on max 30 pills/day -- how much a day on the taper? Is there a significant difference in the amount?

Sounds like the advice on modifying your taper is your only shot at it. You'll just have to go slowly, and, every time you have one in your hand, stop and ask yourself, "Can I wait an hour before I do this? Just an hour? Do I really, absolutely HAVE to take this right now, or can I wait it out a little?" Such self-interrogating slows me down -- otherwise I'd be doing 80 at a time, and hating myself.

All the best -- you can manage this taper if you take your time on it, and nag yourself every time you reach for them ...
