If going through the hell of withdrawels and feeling what I felt is going to make me think twice about using meds, then I would rather that anyday !!! Iknow about rapid detox inside and out if you have any questions..... the reason I know sooooooo much information about it?? Ironically my x boyfriend of 4 years was the one who gave me xanax in the first place, the irony of that? he owns a private hospital !! Go figure !! His hospital welcomes rapid detox simply because he is cashing on all the money !!!
Plus it's so weird... being knocked out for a week with various tubes sticking out of the human body to keep you functioning !!
Now that is what I call scary xoxoxox
Here is an article on rapid detox for all who a considering it
The dangers of rapid-detox drug treatment
The Ontario Coroner's Office is investigating a second death connected to a chain of drug treatment clinics that offer a a highly controversial treatment that has divided addiction experts. So-called "rapid detox" treatment uses a cocktail of medications to speed through the withdrawl process while the patient remains under sedation. As part of the procedure, the patient is implanted with a pellet of the opate antagonist Naltrexone to prevent them from having intense cravings or obtaining any "high" from opiates once the treatment is complete.
At first glance this sounds like it could be a great procedure -- why suffer through weeks of withdrawl symptoms when you can get through the worst of it in a few hours while unconcious? However, some experts claim it is biologically impossible to fast-track withdrawal and that the dangers of the procedure are not worth the potential payoff.
The Toronto Star has a very detailed investigation in to the latest death, including a lot of background information on the procedure for those who may be curious about pursuing it. It looks to be somewhat of a last-resort option, but it seems to me it won't do you much good being clean if there's a good chance that you'll die in the process
As for the only 4-5% of people staying off opiates, that sounds terribly low to me for the number of people who ARE addicted. I never had a CLUE until I got on this forum, how many people it affects. If you think about it, there are posts that pop up sometimes 3, 4, years old with the exact same things we are talking about now. I think that all businesses that make a buck off of rapid detox are like vampires. Sucking money out of desperate people without giving them any real "help". If I had just slept a few days and then woke up with NO forum here, I'm sure I'd have just found more pills. If they are going to do rapid detox, I think it should be required that they also have a follow up plan. I dont know if they do, but Im betting the majority puts people through like a factory.
Another ranting ramble from an old hippie LOL
Peace~
Vic... im in your corner.....
Mike... Good post !!
Avis... good info
love to all of you xoxoxox
I agree with Lostmarbles 100% that feeling every ounce of pain mental and physical for 6 months will keep me a clean person off the pills the rest of my life. I will never abuse another drug as long as I live. I never ever want to be that person again. The life I have now is too wonderful and I have worked too hard to ever go through that again.
