We have this rapid detox in the UK too... There was a post on this a couple of day ago and I put my 2 pence worth in.... Of course this doctor being interviewed praised the rapid detox that of course he was the founder of and stated that 4-5% of people actyally 'make' it...... I think that's utter shite! Determination, will power, strong will and prayer will get you off the shite that we took..Staying focused, support groups, counsellors, friends, family OMG.... so many things that can aid each and every single one of us... those are the things that keep us going med/drug free !! I'm sooooooo sick and tired of doctors preaching their poxy opinions especially when it's to market 'their' product !! RAPID DETOX is another name for copping out... the lazy way to get clean and yet another excuse for some to use bloody drugs ie; 'oh well, I relapsed because I couldn't afford to have the rapid detox blah blah blah !!! '

If going through the hell of withdrawels and feeling what I felt is going to make me think twice about using meds, then I would rather that anyday !!! Iknow about rapid detox inside and out if you have any questions..... the reason I know sooooooo much information about it?? Ironically my x boyfriend of 4 years was the one who gave me xanax in the first place, the irony of that? he owns a private hospital !! Go figure !! His hospital welcomes rapid detox simply because he is cashing on all the money !!!

Plus it's so weird... being knocked out for a week with various tubes sticking out of the human body to keep you functioning !!

Now that is what I call scary xoxoxox

I have to agree with Marbles, if you want to quit whether drugs, smoking, or dieting you have to own your problem. You have to deside to quit and do what is right. The withdraw part may be tough but the mental part is what determines if it is for good. That is where this forum helps so much. We help each other and those that want to quit seem to do so. Am I all wet or do others agree?

yeah I agree I was just postin this as the success rate to stay clean is so low and I imagine the success rate is not limited to just rapid detox.

rapid detox is scary ......this is an article about it ...

Here is an article on rapid detox for all who a considering it

The dangers of rapid-detox drug treatment
The Ontario Coroner's Office is investigating a second death connected to a chain of drug treatment clinics that offer a a highly controversial treatment that has divided addiction experts. So-called "rapid detox" treatment uses a cocktail of medications to speed through the withdrawl (withdrawal) process while the patient remains under sedation. As part of the procedure, the patient is implanted with a pellet of the opate antagonist Naltrexone to prevent them from having intense cravings or obtaining any "high" from opiates once the treatment is complete.

At first glance this sounds like it could be a great procedure -- why suffer through weeks of withdrawl (withdrawal) symptoms when you can get through the worst of it in a few hours while unconcious? However, some experts claim it is biologically impossible to fast-track withdrawal and that the dangers of the procedure are not worth the potential payoff.

The Toronto Star has a very detailed investigation in to the latest death, including a lot of background information on the procedure for those who may be curious about pursuing it. It looks to be somewhat of a last-resort option, but it seems to me it won't do you much good being clean if there's a good chance that you'll die in the process

Hmmm...I guess Im lucky Im not daid, lol, I kinda did this to myself to get through w/d. I had xanax and flexiril and ambien. Between the xanax that I have "extra" (I never take as many in a month as prescribed because they are "as needed"), some flexiril I had left over from a MVA, and some ambien, I stayed "asleep" for about 3-4 days, just waking up to drink or get a small snack. I told my family I was "sick" and since Im recovering from surgery I had that excuse too. Now in hindsight, I'm lucky I didnt OD or something. I do agree that missing the "terrible" physical parts probably made me more likely to relapse, but I hope beyond hope that I do NOT. The real test will begin on April 1 when I return to work at the HOSPITAL...ack! I have to work with the docs I got the drugs from. But when I go back I have had surgery so even if I wanted to slip, they are going to be much less likely to write narcs if my surgeon isnt.
As for the only 4-5% of people staying off opiates, that sounds terribly low to me for the number of people who ARE addicted. I never had a CLUE until I got on this forum, how many people it affects. If you think about it, there are posts that pop up sometimes 3, 4, years old with the exact same things we are talking about now. I think that all businesses that make a buck off of rapid detox are like vampires. Sucking money out of desperate people without giving them any real "help". If I had just slept a few days and then woke up with NO forum here, I'm sure I'd have just found more pills. If they are going to do rapid detox, I think it should be required that they also have a follow up plan. I dont know if they do, but Im betting the majority puts people through like a factory.
Another ranting ramble from an old hippie LOL
Peace~

I believe that only 4-5% of people stay off the drugs. I see how so many have relapsed in here and how many new people appear every week. It is overwhelming to me at times.
I agree with Lostmarbles 100% that feeling every ounce of pain mental and physical for 6 months will keep me a clean person off the pills the rest of my life. I will never abuse another drug as long as I live. I never ever want to be that person again. The life I have now is too wonderful and I have worked too hard to ever go through that again.

Rapid Detox is very much an umbrella term. A lot like going to a plastic surgeon, you can get a botched job and be in pain, or you can get professionals who know what their doing. I guess what I'm saying is just be very picky when It comes down to your decision, make sure it's done in a hospital with professionals, i.e., Board certified anesthesiologists and a fully dedicated medical team.
