Thank you community

I just wanted to say thank you to the community. I have joined, posted, journaled and am tracking. The advice and responses I have gotten, and am getting, is sound, healthy and non-judgmental. Keep the encouragement coming. It means more than you might imagine. My wife told me if I wanted to do this I would have to put in the work. I am starting to understand what that means. Thanks again MedHelp family!!

I'm so glad that you found us and joined our community.  You are doing a terrific job at getting yourself set up for success!  The W/D's part really does suck (especially the bathroom and RLS) but I still believe there is a reason why we have to be so miserable...so that we don't ever forget.

I'm also happy to hear that you've been completely honest with your wife.  I'm a believer in honesty is really the best policy...and the people who really love you will forgive you and offer you the best support they can.

When it is time you might want to suggest that your wife go to something like Al-Anon.  She will need support also.  Lots of people don't realize that it isn't just the addict going through the withdrawals..their partners are too...just in a different way.  Al-Anon is typically for alcohol but they work with any family member or loved one of an addict...including opiates.  It will be really good for her and will be a new way for the two of you to bond even more.

Take care!

I so remember the bathroom days!!  You have set yourself up for success and that is great.  Just keep talking and when the bathroom issues slow down, get yourself to a meeting.  I am so glad your wife is on board and helping you with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So far I am doing the journal, posting and tracking. I have cut off ties with those persons that sell me pills. I am only taking what is prescribed and tapering down from those. I found an N/A group this morning and as soon as I feel safe enough to go more than a 100ft. from a bathroom I will start attending. I am pushing the multi vitamins, B-12, Vitamin water and immodium tablets. I am talking with my wife about how I am feeling and my desires. I have confessed to her all my little "tricks" to get pills and hoard them as well. Now, she makes sure I take them when she puts them in my hand. Honesty with myself and those around me has been my best friend.

I am glad you joined and are working towards your freedom.  Your wife is correct in saying what she did.  Have you given any thought to aftercare?
