This is day three of my withdrawal

I started using Vicodin 10/750 for migraines.  At first my Doc pretty much gave me all I wanted.  They never did help the migraines, but I quickly realized the euphoric effect and kept increasing the dosage.  Then another thing happened after about six months.  A "friend" offered me Percocet.  At first I would only buy five or ten at a time from him.  The euphoria was SOOOOOOOOOO good.  Then he told me he could sell me 90 a month.  Man I thought that would be great.  It has been about a year and a half since the Percocet started.  When I run out of the Percocet, I use the Vicodin.  On occasion, I run short, not having either.  I ran out of both on Saturday afternoon.  The Percocet is due Thursday.  I have had terrible back aches, diarrhea, I can't concentrate at all.  And talk about insomnia, I haven't had over two hours sleep the past three days.  I broke down and went to the Doc this afternoon.  This after I decided to quit ALL pain meds.  He prescribed Catapres.  I know it is supposed to help the w/d symptoms, but I have read that it does nothing for the insomnia.  Anyone know?
It has been a tough three days to say the least.

Catapres is medication to slow down your blood pressure.  I went thru detox at home DR Assisted over 6 weeks. Catapres helped at night a bit but was no miracle pill. There is NONE.  The only way to stop is to make up your mind to stop and suffer the w/d.  It is unavoidable and inevitable and it sucks.  Before I went through at home detox, I used for a year (oxy) and when I ran out w/d, then anxiety for when I could get more then suffer w/d over and over.  For me, unfortunatley, ONE pill is too many and if I take JUST ONE, then 1000 is NOT enough.

I told him I couldn't sleep and he said the Catapres would help.  IS it possible he doesn't know what he is doing?  How successful is Catapres for the other w/d symptoms?

Thanks RSD.  The Doc says 4-6 weeks.  I hope not.  I was a cocaine addict 20 years ago. I went through 28 day treatment, but I really didn't want to quit.  I ended up in the pen and finally quit in the big house.  I really wish I would have never started the Vic or Percocet.  But I think everyone here wishes that.  Thanks for the support all.

Sounds like he was tryin to put a scare in ya. That is cruel!
I know everyone is different, but if you read dowen the forums you will see lots of people feelin better a lot sooner than that.

I think it all depends on how bad you want off really.
Hang in there.

I think the toughest part will be when I get the call Thursday that the Percs are in.  I HAVE to turn them down.  I just have to.  It will be the hardest thing I have done in a long time.  Wish me luck.
