To Lady S and all, thanks for the info on the Elavil

I've always liked sweets but since I've been on the Elavil, I swear I can't get enough sweets.  I bought two big bars of dark chocolate the other day and I've already eaten both of them.  I don't think I'm gaining weight but I'm making some bad nutritional choices.  I'm eating the sweets and chocolate instead of the healthy food I should be eating.  Well, at least I'm not eating the oxys anymore.

I had the same experience on Elavil!  Dark chocolate - could not get enough!  Who am I kidding I still cannot get enough - especially at certain times of the month! lol  I tell you one thing though I will take chocolate over opiates anyday.

Love,

Shelby

Isn't that weird about the dark chocolate?  But you're right, I'm glad to be off of the drugs.  So if I'm addicted to chocolate, so what.  I think I'll get some more today.  lol

I was on Elavil many moons ago (that's amitriptyline, right?)  I remember it doing a similar thing to me.  I was hungry and wanting to eat all the time.  Not necessarily dark chocolate though (still don't like that), but just food in general.  I'm a fairly thin person normally, and I put on the pounds really fast while I was (briefly) on that stuff.  I was on it for migraine prevention at the time.  Now, just a week or so ago, the pain mgmt doc talked about the option of replacing my lorazepam at night (I take it for insomnia) with elavil (although an anti-depressant, it supposedly acts as a sleep aid).  I really don't want to touch that stuff though.  After a hysterectomy and then some elavil?  Oh man.  I can just see the results now.....

Elavil worked wonders for a good friend of mine though.  He's a man though, so different hormones and stuff.  Must be why he never gained weight or craved dark chocolate :-)
