Our naturally produced opiates help to regulate blood pressure. Opiate drugs take over this role & the natural opiates continue to be suppressed during withdrawal until the receptors regain their sensitivity.
Until then, the modulatory controls are absent resulting in blood pressure swings including hypertension.
This is why clonodine can help in withdrawal.
Best wishes.
