Tramadol Withdrawal

Hey everyone! I'm new here so here is my story, at the start of my senior year of high school I verbally committed to go play football in college. First game of the year I was hit and I felt my right arm turn to jello. Went to the hospital immediately and when we got the X-rays my shoulder blade, and humerus were destroyed. It's been 2 years since I first got injured and since then I have had 9 surgeries. I have also taken tramadol everyday for these past two years (also lortab, but I was able to get rid of that) even though I never abused tramadol and took it for the right reasons I still became very addicted and my tolerance built up so high that I had to take more to stop hurting. It was completely taking over my life. It's all I could focus on. I finally decided to quit. Completely cold turkey. I'm only on Alieve and vitamins and have had constant help from my family. I know tramadol withdrawals can give you seizures but I have been on seizure meds since I was very young so that's not a problem. I am now on day 8, almost 9 of my detox. So I guess I'm just wondering if I am off to a good start, and if I have beaten most of the worst physical symptoms. I'm very very strong minded and I overcome adversity very easily so I think I can handle the rest of the stuff. Any help would be so appreciated. Much love and God bless you all.

Well they have benefits but it is a huge double edged sword.  I would recommend maintaining a support network freinds family make them keep you accountable because the mental addiction can be just as tough as the physical

The first couple of days I would get outside and force myself to mow the grass or throw baseball with my little brother. In the past 3 days I have ran 3 miles each day and although I might feel terrible while doing it it really does help me. But I think my addiction problems were sustained because doctors really will prescribe tramadol like it's candy. This is my first try at quitting so I'm very fortunate to have made it this far. Opiates and opioids are such evil drugs and they just really aren't worth it.

Lol Xbox saved me for the first couple of days.  It really occupied my mind.  I've been running.  Getting exercise is huge and will help your brain get those natural endorphins going!

Yeah I haven't slept at all, but at least I'm not in an unbearable amount of pain so I can deal with it. I just play Xbox most of the night and it keeps my mind off of it. Have you done any excersizing?

It's gets better every day.  The hardest thing for me has been sleep.  Still only get a couple hours a night which isn't fun.  But I was determined to get off of everything and my mindset has helped me grind through this

I'm day 11 free of suboxone.  Been on that for 4 years and 6 years of opiate addiction before that.  It's been tough but I've made it this far :).  Getting to the day 9 now is huge.  Just find some ppl to make you accountable, which you have and remember that the pills will never make things better for ya.

And they also called my doctor and told him that he can never prescribe me pain medicine again, so I definitely would not have been able to do this without them.

Thank you so much for the kind words. My parents are doing a very good job at keeping me off. They flushed every single pill down the toilet.

Getting to day 8 is great.  Most of the physical WD should be over with for the most part.  Just gotta stay strong mentally to not turn back to the pills.  Good job!
