I think I agree that the ultram would be harder to stop. I guess i will just try to deal with the pain and take a little as i can until all of this is decided as to what i am going to do going forward. Thanks for all your input.
I had WDs for both and from my own experience, Tramadol was WORSE by a mile!!!
You may want to check with your doc though since everyone reacts different to various meds.
It's been 1 week, 2 Days clean off Hydrocodone; first 3-4 days were bad, but not as bad as Tram WDs....
I would recommend very strong Motrin.
I had my gallbladder removed two weeks ago today. I took oxys as prescribed Thurs Fri sat sun ........ Monday I changed over to Motrin and a heating pad Monday Tues wed Thurs were not fun But bearable. There are times you will have to use pain meds just be very honest with yourself as to whether you really do need them or can you find an alternative .I would stay as far away as i could from tramadol it is my DOC it is NOT FUN AT ALL to come off of ...... good luck

yes...you doctor would be the best judge of that...there will be times that we have to take pain meds i guess for surgeries and what not...I am not sure if you had an addiction problem or not ..I am assuming you did or you would not be on here...depression is part of the narcotic WDs but depression will be probably happen when you quit no matter what narcotic you choose if you take them long term or are addicted to them...Depression is one factor that leads many to relapse and was a big problem for me after I quit lortabs...Everyone is different....as far as taking pain meds to help with your heart....severe pain can make your heart rate increase and your blood pressure spike...but that is severe pain and the negatives of taking narcotics long term if you are addicted can adversely affect your heart in the long run and other organs as well...you need to take the one that the doc prescribes and it also depends on how much pain you are having...your doc will be the best judge of that...I would wait until the time comes and worry about it then...you will have to be careful with any narctoic you take...there is just not a safe one out there that I know of
he gave me hydro and said he was going to do the test and find out if he can help with surgery.
Maybe you should go with what the Dr. prescribed. Also, you can ask the Dr. which one is best for you. Good luck
Personally I would take the hydocodone. As long as you take it as prescribed you should be ok. In my experience with pain the Tram did not help much and found Advil to work better. Just be very honest with yourself and stop taking it as soon as your pain ease's up.
I have heard so many horror stories about ultram that they scare me because of the depression that sets in when your trying to taper. And the ones i have are extended release so i can't break them in half. I met with a nurosurgeon this morning and i have some disks that are rubbing bone on bone and he is going to do a series of tests again to have a better look to see if he can do anything to stop the pain. It's going to be more than a week before i can have the tests because i am on a blood thinner because of a heart condition. I have been through the wd already and am taking a lot less than i was so i hope i can get through it ok if i have surgery and they pain is less. I have gone 4 days twice without anything with a couple of days of taking something in between in the last 2 weeks, but only one or 2 a day of the 5.5 hydros. The pain in my back gets so bad i give up even though the cravings are just about gone. I understand that pain is really bad for your heart and a small dose of pain medication is not too bad. Does that make sense?
i have not taken the trams...i did take hydros. it is my understanding the trams are worse to w/d from. but neither is easy i assure you. if you do have to have surgery maybe you can do what i did. last month i had the disc in my jaw replaced. i used the pain meds for 5 days then went to 800ml ibuprfen. i still felt the pain, but at least it wasnt from w/ds
Whcih one were you addicted to originally? I would choose the one that was not my drug of choice in that situation and stick to the prescribed dose...tramadol is not as trong as lortab/hydrocodone for pain relief...but 3 -7.5s daily would not help me anyway because of my tolerence to them.....I am not sure what type of surgery u r having and how much pain that would be expected?
Just wanted to see if anyone read my question and if anyone has been through this issue with ultram and hydros? Thanks
