Tramadol reactions

I'm soon to have double knee replacement. I am allergic anti-inflammatory very allergic. Even in the most distant of that type of drug. My Dr prescribed Tramadol and he assures me it's okay, It wont affect me, with  a reactoin . Is that true? He wont give me anything afraid I'll get addicted to them(the opiate)I'm scared of  Tramadol  And I wont be given anything else until I try the Tramadol to actually see if I get do get a reaction. So now I sit in pain that makes me cry it gets so bad.. I've never abused any drugs. but  once did run out a day sooner then I should have, How do I get my Dr to listen to me, What I'm doing is clearly the wrong approach. Thank you

Avisg is absolutely right, Shawnee66; Tramadol, though not yet listed as a narcotic (I don't think), IS highly addictive.  I have been on one-month regimes in the past with Tramadol, and the withdrawal, after only ONE MONTH, was awful!  Now, I've been on them for 15 months and the withdrawal I know I will face is scaring me almost into unconsciousness!  I kid you not~~MDs touted this drug as almost nothing more than super-charged Tylenol.  Believe me, it is FAR more powerful and as I understand it, the w/d is worse than Codeine, Vicodin, or Percocet.  Be extremely cautious.  I took it for colitis pain and wish to God I hadn't.

tramadol is highly addicting but it is not an anti inflammatory so you probably wont have a reaction after surgery I would just be very careful take them for the short time possible you have not abused drugs but I think its great that you are being very careful ..The other option would be something like Tylenol 3 sort term .
