Tramadol

Hi.  I'm currently addicted to vicodin and take about 150 mg a day and have been for about 8 months.  Every time I stop and run out I suffer from horrible withdrawal aches and pains and sweats and extreme fatigue.
I currently have 2 of the 7.5 mg tablets in the house and plan on waiting until I just can't take the pain anymore and then taking only half and hoping that helps a little.
My question is... I have a bottle of 50 mg tramadol here.  I was wondering if it's a comparible drug to vicodin or percocet.  I am going to a dr to prescribe me suboxone next week but in the meantime I was wondering if I were to take the tramadol, could that help with my withdrawal symptoms?
Thanks......

I have a very similar problem- Degenerative disk disease but I really don"t have much back pain (unless I sit or sleep too long) but have such horrible experiences when I try to take less than 50mg of Tramadol a day.
I am at a loss as far as what to do.

Hi Everyone. I am so proud of the people who have taken such a healthy road. Well my story is I have digenerative disk but I don't feel pain lately. I'm thinking about coming off Tramadol. I take a half of a 50 mlg in the am and the other half in the late afternoon. Sometimes a half to go back to bed at 3am and another half when I wake up. I feel really tired and I want more energy, so i want to stop taking the tramadol. In can't get through the withdraw pain or the chaos of being off it or sometimes the pain, so I feel stuck. I feel sad I miss appointments sometimes and I get tired and overwhelmed. I can't keep up with a busy schedule without getting tired. This is no way to live. I am taking such a minimum dose but I'm getting such negative affects mostly I'm always tired. Please help!!! Thanks

Dear friends, I took tramadol for more than 5 years and the dose was 4-5 tabs / day. I am going to tell you a wonderful regimen. first take some sertraline 50 mg for about 1 week to boost your serotonin levels. then add Baclofen 2 tabs to times daily, clonazepam 1 tab at night and loperamide 3-4 tabs two times daily. No withdrawal sysmptoms. try this.

The tramadol will help alot when you are out of the vics.
I have done this many times when I was low on the percs or vics.
If tramadol is all you have until you get the sub go for it,
Your withdrawls will not be bad at all,the only thing you might crave is the high.
Good Luck

My withdrawl sypmtoms from Tramadol was hell.  It lasted about two weeks.  That was after taking them daily for around a year though.  I was taking about 20/day before I quit.

If you can manage without switching drugs, I would reccomend doing so.  I know there are those people out there who say that tramadol is not addictive.  I would argue that completely.

Good luck

when i say it ruined my life, that's the drama queen in me saying it made my methadone withdrawal acute and severe.  i was scared of everything and the only way i could keep my body from hurting was to rock myself.  it was so tiring and weird.  if i ever want to pick up again, i will picture that time.

The thing is that I have tried tramadol before in the past and it hasn't helped at all.  Now, I am willing to take alook back and wonder if it didn't help me or if I didn't feel the high I was used to feeling from the vics or percs.  It's probably the latter.
So, since it does not give me that euphoric feeling, I'm thinking if I take 1 or 2 or the 50 mg pills when my withdrawal pains get to be too much, I might have a real shot of being a halfway productive person and mother while I detoxof the other stuff.
BUT, I have a tendency to find a way to become addicted to all things so perhaps I won't.  I haven't yet and I took my last 2 hydros yesterday afternoon, which feels like a lifetime ago.
Thank you for your reply.

My last post did not really answer your question. So my answer is a guess at best that Tram. will ease the detox. somewhat; how much depends on the person.
I am currently doing a 5 day detox. from Oxy. (70mg a day down from around 300mg a day) using Sub. On my third day. Had a rough time at around 4 today then evened out. My point here is that Oxy. Vics., ect have a half life of around 6 hours. Sub. has a half life of 36 hours. Tram? I don't know. But when you go in for the Sub. you must be in a detox. state otherwise the Sub. will send you into full detox. That will not feel good at all, and since it blocks Codine, Vics. will not help. Something to think about. I would drag the web to find out more, it be me.

Taking Tram. for just a few days to a week won't further hurt you, will only pospone at the worst dectox. off Vics. Longer then that well? Sub? You have to ask yourself do you want to spend the rest of your life on Sub? If not then tell the Doc. that you want a low dose to even out and a steady decrease either day by day or week by week until you ween off of it.
