I know this is kind of old, however I just want to let anyone who might be on tramadol while they are pregant its safe. If you need the med and are not taking it for the wrong reasons its a pretty safe med to take while your prego.. I took it my last two pregnancy. I did not abuse it and needed it for pain as I did not want to take stonger meds. Both my sons are now healthy 4 and 5 year olds. Towards the end I even took a few hydrocodones here and there like I said, I do have health issues and did not go overboard and that was also ok. Just wanted to let others know cause my first four kids I took nothing but the last two I had the other four to care for so didnt really have a choice kids don't have turn off buttons lol. Anyways do what you can do to not take meds but if you need them you need them. Just don't want to see anyone be freaking out because they are on tramadol and found out they are prego. Infact if your at higher doses it may be very dangerous to just stop. Please see your doc and if its decided you can stop do it slowly under doctors orders. Do not stop on your own!!! Nothing to completly freak over!!!
One thing I discovered during my withdrawal process from Tramadol that I believe is worth sharing: The worst problem I had during the first few nights was the creep crawly restless arms and legs that I just COULD NOT keep still long enough to relax and sleep. Well, after a couple of horrific nights, I discovered that when I bent my arms and legs tightly (works best with arms bent above head kind of) the creepy crawliness was minimized greatly. I guess it prob. has to do with the blood flow, not really sure. All I know is, this really helped me so I wanted to share it for others to at least try if they are going through withdrawals and suffering from this problem. Hope this helps someone :)
Thanks to everyone for your positive, helpful responses. Yes, my pain dr. and my OB both said "stop taking the Tramadol" and so I freaked out and did. They said it is not safe during pregnancy and I need to discontinue immediately. Looking back I would have tapered down slowly but now I am just thankful it is behind me. I am now on day 8 I believe of having NO Tramadol (so many times after stopping I thought I couldn't do it, but I kept going with it and am now glad I did). The first 4-5 days were the worst, but I am glad to be through it. To feohmoon, those are great points. I am about to continue tapering down on my other med, (Tylenol 3 w/ Codeine) and will use your advice! Feeling okay now, just exhausted - not sure if that is still withdrawal or partly pregnancy effects. Either way, I hope to feel completely better soon. Thanks again to everyone for your responses :)
I would get a second opinion as I agree with the others...being pregnant adds another degree of difficulty to an already tough situation.
Best of luck to you - Please try some of the natural remedies - like epsom salt baths and short walks - your prenatal vitamins should help a little bit....and if your doctor says it is ok, some calcium and magnesium is good for the symptoms and also for the anxiety. It was recommended by a nurse at a detox facility - it is called NaturalCalm and it really helped my fiance and I quite a bit...Keep posting - the support and encouragement is great. Congratulations on your pregnancy...try to stay positive...
Peace
You need to taper down on the trams and not go CT with these. Your OB doctor told you to just stop?
It puts a lot of stress on the baby the same as it does you and there is a chance for something to go wrong. The doctor will help if you ask them and will not ask you a bunch of questions. Its better to be safe than sorry.
You should stop the taper and start taking what you were taking on your tapering say 1 4xday. It can hurt the baby tapering without a doctors supervision. It is very serious and please take it so. Please don't stop taking the med without the doctor. There are others on here who can explain it better than I can. Just please wait to stop at least until you talk to someone else.
