Tramodol question

I have done alot of reading on tramodol and keep getting mixed messages Tramodol is an Opiate correct? and can sometimes depending on dosage be harder to come off of then just regular percocet?
My Doctor put me on Toradol for a pain med Because I told him I didnt want To take any kind of opiate and he said he didnt feel the Toradol alone would help me with my pain from Surgery recovery of my arm and herniated disc and Tramadol isnt addicting like regular opiates or Hydros?
But i see on this forum people having hard time with WDs from it. I told my Doctor this and he said that impossible ???
So For now i will not take it I will just use toradol and Aleve
Any Input on this would be greatly appreciated

Pat <3  Agree with You I was so upset because My Drs continue to try and push Narcotics on me yes i am hurt I am But I also explained that i really didnt want them Unless absolutely necessary They said Ok But Only to see they continue to push the pills and say just deal with addiction later. I understand i need to recover from My Injuries but It would be so easy for me to Milk it and get so many  pills If i chose.
I have 3 different drs that dont even talk to each other each willing to write RX for me of same med?
i dont want to get back on the viscous cycle I wont do it. i will guard my sobriety with my life because I have taken my life back and its hard I still crave OMG do I crave But I just know the more days go by It will get easier.I stay positive and worry about today each day.
How are you doing My friend I have you always in my thoughts and prayers <3

I really believe that doctors do not understand things because they have never gone through it.  Unless they have been addicted or maybe even have worked closely with several addicts, they do not understand addiction or the horror of withdrawal.
They treat patients like an assembly line and it's really hard to get through to them when you have a concern.
It just keeps getting worse.  I remember the good old days when doctors actually cared and went above and beyond for their patients.

yes conhall, its very addictive drs are stupid sometimes I had a friend who went through hell with it, and the mentall part was horrible for her cause it also is an antidepressant so you are withdrawing from and opiate based pill and antidepressant and its time released and that makes it worse. so please dont take it its awful stuff, I have a friend who is on them now and has tried to get off em and cant. she has alot of pain issues again like most of us started out having health problems and ended up hooked its such a terrible cycle but oh to common. I had to jump in here to cause even thou its not sop to be that bad of medication it is, my poor friend found that out the hard way she wanted the lesser of evils and got a demon. thanks for sharing and letting me give my opnion on that love and light

Hey Conhall, just to add to the conversation, over a year ago, long before I found this forum, my Orthopedic Doctor, also wrote me an RX for Tramadol and said it was not an opiate and non addictive! My Pharmacy confirmed it!! I took it for a week or so, and stopped because it did not relieve my pain at all! I threw the remainder of my RX away! Later, after finding this forum, I learned about how addictive and horrid the withdrawals from Tramadol can be! Its so weird to me how doctors still maintain that this is non addictive! Anyway, so good that you have done your own homework! Take care!

I have read so much on Forum about it and it baffles me how the Dr can just say NO ITS NOT then what are all these people who come off it just making it up? No they arent and it also bothers me how easily drs just are so ready to write script for whatever and dont feel obligated to even tell you what can happen to you and how these pills can ruin your life :/  '
Thanks Vicki I appreciate your input as always your Great!

It's absolutely addicting! Drug books and the PDR won't call it an opiate though and that's what the docs go by...

It doesn't matter what he says, in this particular case. The posts here on the forum tell the story...

Your Dr. is WRONG.  You've seen the posts and tramadol is an opiate (doesn't hit all the receptors at once.. so maybe we'll call it "opiate-like"? - ...but still..) and it is super addictive for a lot of people.  You're right not to take it and stay with the toradol.  You'll be better off.
