Tranxene and Alcohol

HI. My doctor just prescribed for me 2 3.75mg tabs of traxene a day for occassional use when i get bad panic attacks. my question is, i know its not a good idea to drink alcohol when taking benzos but if Im taking it one or two twice a week, can i ever drink alcohol? and i guess obviously, i wouldnt drink the same time im taking the pill but when is the soonest after that that i can drink alcohol?? Thanks for any answers u can give me.

I just realized I had bumped this from before since I got here from google, but upon realizing your dose I have to add.

By my experience you should be fine. 2 3.7 or 7.5 is a ridiculously low dose... Especially for panic attack, I take 90MG a day for alcohol withdrawals and I still drink a six pack with it to help. I think he was just giving you something for a psychological placebo effect, figuring that it's illegal to actually use placebos like that, but that dose is ridiculously low you could probably drink a case on it. I think that's about the equiv of .07 of klonopin, no not .25, but .07, as I'm reading from a PDR.

I spent give years drinking 10-12 beers a day on klonopin and it wasn't safe, I feel I came close to dying many of times. Sometimes, I would drop to the floor and it would feel like something was sitting on my chest, had I began puking I would had died. I believe it is primarily respiratory depression and over sedation that you should be concerned about but I've noticed since taking tranxene for alcohol withdrawal that half life seems to play a factor too, so even say 10-20 hours after your last benzo dose (depending on its half life) you may have a reaction to alcohol with it.

So, I would say if it's a benzo with a long half life and you want to play it totally safe then no, don't drink more than 1-3 beers a day with it. But whatever you do, don't think that you can judge it as you go along ; you cant! Especially as you start getting the slightest bit drunk you might not realize that you've gone too far until it feels like you're pulling your lungs up with springs to breathe -- which occurs immediately. It doesn't come on slowly.

I agree....I would be very cautious with benzo's and alcohol. I don't have enough experience with either so I think asking a dr would be a good idea! Please be careful!
