Trying to quit fiorinal#3(butalbital)

by MCF, Jan 11, 2008 02:40PM
I have been taking fiorinal#3(butalbital) for 1 yr.(everyday)  I feel I've been taknig this medication too long.  I started with 2 a day, then 3 a day, then 4 a day.  I cut back to 2 a day and starting tomorrow I will try 1 a day.  My main concern is the side effects.  I'm afraid of possible seizures.  Do you know when this journey will end?  I just want my life back.  Do you think this will be hard for me to stop taking if it's only been 1 yr.?  My 1 yr. oppose to some peoples 20+ yrs. I don't know?? I ask God everyday to heal me and deliver me from this medication.  I want to feel NORMAL!!!

your not supposed to do this at home ...you really should do it inpatient .PLZ talk to a doctor there is a very real risk of seizure .

Have you heard of ion footsoak?  I'm going for a treatment today.  It's like a detox.  I wasn't sure if it would bother me or not because of the meds.

I also take xanax.25mg as needed.  This would be about 5x's a month... so not a problem with these.  Do you think the xanax will help while I'm weening myself?

my mom has been on this medication for about 15 years. I think that it would be ok for you to get off of it at home. My mom has several times when she began to feel she was addicted. This was in the first 5-7 years. When she would start to hurt she use to take 2 ibuprofen then half a caffeine pill then 2 more ibuprofen it would really help kick her headache but it is bad for you to take that combo for to long but when your suffering from a migraine your almost willing to do anything to help yourself! The withdrawals where really bad she would be in bed for about 2 weeks but she hardly ever did it the correct way....slowly... she would just cut down to one a day then every other day then stop it all together this would happen over about a 2 week period. I know everyone says to tell your doctor about what is happening but all they do is make you feel like your an addict. She has gotten back on them for the last 8-10 years and has not stopped and she takes about 4-6 pills a day now. She recently got the flu so she couldn't hold the medication down so she went about 5 days without it and she noticed she didnt have the same horrible migraines she did before. She is starting to figure out that this medication makes her headaches worse and not better. It gives rebound migraines! But now she is addicted and for the first time she is starting to see it thanks to me. She thought she was just really sick but then she started to be able to tell she was going through withdrawals it was horrible! I couldnt help her at all and she refused to go to the hospital so do yourself a favor and get off them now!!! If she can do it after 15 years you can after only one! I will keep you in my prayers just as i do for my mom i really hope you beat this before it has to strong of a hold on you! Good luck and God Bless!

I didnt know butalbital was addictive or strong or anything.. I have a whole script of fiorcet without the codiene.. But they dont do anything for me.. Is it the butalbital that you are addicted to, or is it the codiene in yours?
