Trying to take my own advice today...

I am on day 11.  Yesterday I felt great.  Most of the physical w/d's are fading fast now.  However, today is a different story.  I am craving vicodin so bad right now.  This is the first time since I quit that I have had cravings like this.  I find it strange & twisted that the moment I start feeling better, I end up immediately wanting to take more pills.  It's bad, I have had to stop myself at least 10 times already from getting some.  It has all I have thought about since I woke up this morning.  UGH:(

The thoughts you are having are normal but you cannot allow them forget why you are here.  You have come so far.  There are so many that would give life and limb to be 11 days free from addiction.  Just think back to all the many reasons the led you to stop taking pills to begin with.   Taking one now is not the answer.  The progress you will make from days 11 to 24 is incredible.  Please do not give in now.

This is only the first time,  and it won't be the last. This is just one of those bad days where you have to battle your brain and tell it who's boss. You have to keep yourself busy and mind focused on something else on these kind of days, Idle time is when your brain keeps trying to make you think about reaching for a pill.

keep fighting, it will pass. Maybe  try some Sam-e supplements  if you aren't taking it or 5HTP will help with the anxiety, depression and stress.

i don't find it weird that when you are feeling better, you have a craving.... For many, many months, whenever i went out or was having fun.... i felt the urge of using... Having fun was a big, big trigger to me.... I felt like if the fun i was having,  was not enough, that i wanted more.... Since then, i have learned to be satisfied with the fun i am having without asking for more.... with the pills, we had this inner urge to have more and feeling better was as easy as taking one more pill.... Habits are hard to erase, akita and your mind is used to link feeling good with taking pills.... As i said, it is hard work but it is doable, talk to yourself, recognise that trigger and learn how to be satisfied with whatever you are having without asking for more...  let yourself  enjoy those moments. And besides, during the first months, cravings are common.... learn what  the triggers are and find how to distract yourself and what to do when you are having cravings .... ask for support, stay busy, find something like a new hobbie, go for a walk, talk to a therapist/sponsor/counselor... whatever  :)

Laurel said it very good!  Just keep yourself busy today, you will get thru this.  You are in control of you now, not your addiction.  I am really glad you came here and are talking with us so keep that going~~sara

Thanks everyone!  I feel better now.  It just took me off guard because I thought I was over the cravings already & it freaked me out that I was back to actually considering taking some again, after everything I have already been through with this so far.  I am the typical impatient addict. lol

Akita, you are not alone. I'm right behind you, day 10 and had bad cravings this morning. In my mind I take myself through the process of getting and taking my pills and then ask myself, well now how do you feel. The guilt and disappointment just isn't worth it. At least your posting and being brutally honest. Which is what is so amazing about this forum and everyone on it. All we want it to help eachother beat our addictions.
I truly believe the cravings will decrease. We are still little babes..lol
