Trying to wean off Percocet

Trying to wean off Percocet

I was dx with Crohns disease in Feb of 2007, I was put on all sorts of drugs including Fentnyl patch (morphine) luckily I was able to wean off of those, but for pain they have me on Percocet and Darvocet. In August of Last year I was told I didn't have crohns and that it was more likely that i had a bacterial infection that was treated incorrectly. Either way I have been taking percocet for over a year now for pain. I take maybe 1 or 2 a day, which isn't bad but I dont want to be on them anymore. There is still pain everyday but there has to be a better way to treat it than percocet, but every time I try to stop  i cant. I think I'm physically dependant on them. If I dont take one, i get a fever, chills, aches, nausea, anxiety the works. How do I wean off these things??? I would like to go back to work but cant do that if Im on narcotics. Please help.

you can taper off of them by cutting your dose down slowly. but it just makes the withdraws a litlle easier, they are still goin to be there. others will be on in a few hours that can help ya more. if you go cold turkey, the worst w/d will be over in 5 to 7 days. keep posting as this may get pushed down the list. if ya repost in morning you will get lots of responses. best of luck...

He is right, tapering is going to be the easiest thing for you to do.  Be thankful you did not allow this to get more out of hand...you will be able to get ahold of this relatively quick...that is my personal opinion.....
There are vitamins, minerals, aminos, etc. that are very important to rebuild what your body needs thus resulting in less wd symptoms.
My fiance and I are 7 days off methadone...you can do this.  This forum is amazing...the support and compassion is priceless.
Best of luck and continue to post.  Please check out our journal, the vitamins, etc. that we take is on there and man it helps more than I can express to you!
Anytime you need something, just let us know...everyone on here is great.
Peace

You could start cutting the pils in half to stretch them thrugh the day in small doses or you could just go ahead and CT...get it done...like newmgt said...in several days the physical yuckies will be over

Wow, my husband has Ulcerative Colitis and was just in the hospital for 7 days. I can't believe your doctors have let you be on pain meds this long. He was sent home with 20 lortab 5s and hardly took any if at all. The doctor told him if his pain was bad enough to need pain meds he would need to be back in the hospital. When you had the scope and biopsy done it should have diagnosed your disease or infection. Are you still in pain a year later? Why have your doctors not cleared up the infection? We got his colitis under control in about 2 weeks and no pain meds just pednisone and asacol. He is now tapering off the pednisone. Your infection and pain shouldn't last a year there has to be something else going on.
You will really need to get off the pain meds. If you are only taking 1 or 2 a day it shouldn't be to hard for you. You will have some WDs but shouldn't be bad.
I hope you get this under control and really question your doctor.

Welcome glad to have you here

I had to go to a military hospital since my husband is in the AF and we moved to England and my insurance doesn't cover me while overseas, anyway, long story short they still havn't treated the "infection" but I also had a really crappy surgeon do the scopes and she was so sure it was crohns to start off that I think she just wouldnt consider anything else. Since then I have seen specialist and they have all said that since it was treated at crohns and no what it was, that I now have post infective disorder and it could take anywhere from a year to 2 years to clear up. I should have been given cipro but was put on Prednisone for 8 months when really it should have been a 6 week course and then a taper, but the military totally screwed me. So here I am 15 months later addicted to pain meds. Yeah for me.
