Turned 40 yesterday!

So yesterday was my 40 th  birthday and I decided it's time to grow up and out of the grip of this addiction. I'm on day 6 again and really struggling to regain the passion I felt about quitting when I joined the forum almost a month ago! Every since I relapsed after 19 days I just feel flat. I'm still going to my meetings but a little more reluctantly. Part of the problem is I've yet to find a sponsor and start working my steps. I do have a prospect so that's good news! I'm just longing for some enthusiasm again. I do know this much. I don't intend to spend my 40 th year in the same place I spent this last year. What a waste it was! I have a bright future ahead of me if I can only hang on. I just want this to be a year filled with growth on all levels. What to do about my apathy, that is the question! Any suggestions?

Coming to this site can be a good sponsor place holder, until you secure a sponsor.  Are you getting clean on your own, or with the support of a doctor?  There are so many things a doctor can prescribe to help you.
Happy Birthday and stay strong!  You CAN DO THIS!!

Thanks so much for the kind words and support! You all make my recovery feel so much more doable. I know if I stay focused I'll get through this! I listen to the stories in my meetings of all those who have gone before me and I want what they have which is peace and happiness in sobriety. I know everyone struggles from time to time but it's no reason to pick up. That's what I have to remember. It's a choice and I don't have to use. Hopefully this sponsor will work out and I can really start working the steps. I think that will make a huge difference. Thanks again!

Happy Birthday!  How wonderful to spend it with those you love and I am happy to hear you have support.

Also, glad to hear there may be a potential sponsor.  When I had my eyes on the sponsor I have now, I started going to meetings that she went to just to hear what she would say. I was watching two women very closely...and one jusr said something that I related to so well, that I knew she was for me. I was feeling very blah at the time as well, but after I asked her to sponsor me, I started feeling a little more enthusiastic about what I was doing... and had soneone to help guide me and give me direction from there....

I wish you best of luck :) and congratulations on the the 6 days sober....welcome back

Happy 40th!  U r on day 6...going to meetings.  You are doing all the right things.  It will take awhile for the pieces to come together and make sense.  I never knew patience until I quit vicodin. I had to learn it quickly or go crazy.  My answer to apathy? Keep ur mind busy.  Exercise if u can, listen to music, dance around the house. watch some funny movie or tv. Keep fighting - u r worth it!

Thanks so much! It was a happy day spent with my husband and kids. They have showered me with love and support and I feel so blessed! It's great to be present in their lives again instead of high then constantly crashing. I may be feeling blah but I have so much to be thankful for.
