Tylenol PM

by jenny8575309, Nov 20, 2007 06:52AM
As some of you know, I have been having serious sleep issues.  Alot of times I just lay in bed all night, I know I don't sleep cos I don't wake up, or dream.  I bought some Tylenol PM's and took some last night.  I slept, but I'm worried about taking them, because I like pills that make me tired.  I gave them to my son to hold so I won't take more than two.  Could this lead me back to my active addiciton with pills?  I really am taking them for the right reason, but I think my mind is telling me thanks for the relief.  I can't say they fkd me up, but they did make me tired, and they did calm my thoughts, and I LOVE PILLS that make me not have to think so much. I'm worried about taking them, but I can't sleep, can't can't can't...  I don't want to go crazy w/out sleep, plus I'm sluggish, and unhappy the days after I don't sleep worth a **** and that's mostly all the days.  Is it ok for me to take Tylenol PM's for the right reason, even if I kinda like em?  Maybe my mind is just playing tricks on me, like I said in no way do they get me high, or make me feel euphoric, more like drowsy, but drowsy is good too... Confused, again!

"supposedly" Tylenol PM is non-addictive.  I take them for sleep when I need them and when I'm in WD's..... I need them.  I certainly don't think there is anything wrong with taking a Tylenol PM before bedtime.  I really don't like them in the sense that they have an effect on me.... In fact I just kinda trust that they're going to work because I feel no effects from them except for that they make me a little sleepy.  For me... they only work for about 4 hours so I personally don't think they are great for a whole nights sleep but they certainly do help me go to sleep.

I had sleep issues and took Tylenol PM and it worked good... for a while.  I then went to the doctor and he persribed Ambien CR and it worked good...for a while.  Now I can't sleep and none of it helps.
I am tapering off vicodin and that contributes  to my non sleep thing, layed in bed last night for  7hrs
never fell asleep.  It might be a quick fix but in the end won't last.  That is what I have found.  I think I may be going through with w/d on the Ambien CR also as taking it has now become useless!

i am having serious sleep issues too.  i went to bed at like 11:30 last night, woke up WIDE AWAKE at 2:00.   Thankfully i did fall back asleep from about 5 - 7.  So at least that is something.  I am day 7 today - 1 week.  I tried some tylenol PM like 3 nights ago, I still didn't sleep so I an envious that they are working with you!

I can't tell you the right answer, who knows.  but I think tylenol PMS and anything over the counter is pretty mild.  i can't imagine getting hooked on that (and i LOVE pills too).  but i think you have to judge for yourself a bit.  also, my dr (addiction dr) doesn't blink at anything over the counter, like a non issue?

don't know if that helped..  good luck.

I think if Tylenol PM works for you, great.  It doesn't work for me, but then again, neither does Ambien or Rozerem.  Tylenol PM is just a combination of tylenol and benadryl.  As joievicman says, it won't last unfortunately.  I was waking in the middle of the night taking either ambien or rozerem and maybe got 1 extra hour's sleep (or so I thought).  Then decided not to take it and actually got a couple hours more sleep than with a sleep aide.  If you use it very sparingly (once in a while), it may continue to work.  Once you start using it daily though, won't work at all in my opinion.  Just don't take more than the directions on the bottle as too much tylenol can kill your liver.

If you don't need the pain med in the tylenol buy some Simply Sleep.  Tylenol puts it out and my husband sleeps like a baby with 2 of those. I know albertsons and probably other stores have their own brand, same stuff though.
I feel for you Hon.  I fight the sleep thing too.  TJack

I had trouble sleeping. I would lay awake which gave me time to think about my problems and then have panic attacts. I recently gave up on trying to sleep and got up and watchted TV. I found it helped because after 45 minutes of watching something I would get tired and go back to sleep. I have read before if you have trouble sleeping don't fight it read or watch TV.
