Tylox withdrawals?

by nomoretysnomorelies, Oct 08, 2009 10:22AM
My husband and I are both permanently disabled and are on the same medication, Tylox.  I get 6 a day and he is on 8 a day.  I have been on pain meds since an auto accident in 2002 and he has been on them just as long if not longer.  I have watched him suffer many times from running out of meds a week after getting his prescription and now he is, again, going through the withdrawals.  Month after month he runs out early and asks me for some of mine or has to go find some elsewhere.  He's done the ER visits, detox and even got some off the streets.  He lies about snorting them and about how many he takes, it's neverending.  I am now having to cut back on my meds to help him out and I am terrified to go through withdrawals.  I want off my pain meds and want to help him get off his too.  The meds have ruined our lives, jobs, finances and self worth.  I take my meds as prescribed, by mouth and for over 7 years.  If I wean myself gradually, what type of withdrawals am I loooking at?  How long will it take to be completely free from them and any withdrawal symptoms?  I have never abused my meds or run out early but I worry due to the length of time I have been taking them.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

To: nomoretysnomorelies,
i have been on pain meds for years and tyloxes is one of them, i snort them to and now my nose is so messed up that the only way to get the pain in my nose to stop is to snort another pill, the withdrawls wont last long if you wean yourself down, thats what i am trying to do now, it only last for about a week  but the withdrawls will suck but when that week is gone it will be well worth it, try to get to where you only take one pill a day for about a week and then just stop and it should only last a day or two,  you can e-mail me and we will go thru it together if you want, its always good and easier to have someone goin thru it with you than by yourself, ***@****. good luck

in reality ur dose is not huge...sounds as if u r physically dependent only...so ur wds should not be too bad...the mental component is the tough part/and if u r not mentally addicted then u will not have that...ur husband on the other hand has a problem to be reckoned with...and if u take them to feel "OK" vs for pain then perhaps u r also an addict...only u know these things but if u have enuf left over to give him some then most probably u r not abusing them....u wd should be fairly easy physically/well we r all different/but if u taper down a pill a week or 2 u should get out without a ton of discomfort...it is a good idea to talk to ur dr who rx-s them to u and ask him to help u with some safe meds and also read the thomas recipe/in the health pages/skim the health pages/great info

ur husband on the other hand may be a greater feat...he will need aftercare and may have a tougher time/again...only u know if u r an addict...from ur post it sounds as if u may not be..but ur husband is..if he doesnt get help ur relationship can deteriorate..quick
