Tyrosine

4days clean and feeling GREAT!!!
Have discussed the biochemistry of this with my colleagues (I'm a pharmacologist)...needless to say the only thing discussed was the biochemisty. They all tended to think I was taking a simplistic view (some even thought i had it ass backwards)of the mechanism by which tyrosine works, but for me anyway... work it does.
Its been 36 hrs since any Valium and 24 hrs since a small dose of clonidine...took 2000mgs of tyrosine 8 hrs ago and I am feeling absolutely withdrawal free.
I dont know if you really need the B6.
Love to you all,
Serge.

I just found this site today and am picking up the "Thomas Diet" for detox at my local New Life Health store.  They had everything except the Imodium and the Copper and Magnesium in Strong wide-spectrum supplement.  I have used Magnesium and MSM for basic pain management but that was long ago.  I'm 55 now and can eat oxy's like candy.  I have actual pain (hip replacement candidate) but no insurance and no real self control when I self medicate.

I went from 36  (15MG) a day to 10, then went back up slowly to 24 a day.  Last week I dose-dropped like a hammer from 24 on Tuesday to 12 Wednesday, 8 on Thursday, 6 on Friday, skipped Saturday with just the Catapres/Xanax then 3 on Sunday. I hadn't slept even with some Xanax and Catapres (clonidine) for 4-5 days and I broke down and took 8mg of Subutex four hours apart Monday.  I waited the four hours hoping that even with the Xanax and Catapres I might sleep but that was wishful thinking.  Once I took the other half (4mg) I went out like a lite in an hour and a half; that was Monday night.

Last night I couldn't sleep until I took 2MG of Subutex and slept about 2.5 hours between 9PM and  4:45AM.  I've been visiting all these message boards just to pass the time the last week.  I must have 40 new sites bookmarked in that time.  I will pick up the Thomas Detox ingredients in a few hours and start tomorrow.  I will take some Melatonin tonight w/Catapres and wait til the AM to start.  I am going to also get some DL-Phenylalanine as well.  I am even considering smoking some Hydro and it's been over 30 years since I did that.  My niece offered me a bud of Hydro because they know I'm trying hard. It's really about 9-1 odds that I'll reject her offer because I'm afraid of either liking it, or; because I'll freak out some way being up all night all alone again.

I know this thread is probably a decade old but I found it extremely useful.  Thanks and love to all...... Jglassman

Could someone e-mail me the 'recipe'. I can only see the new posts. I have a friend kicking heroin and am looking for something to help him besides methadone.
***@**** Thanks in advance. D.

You're most welcome, everyone. The recipe is the result of, quite frankly, a lot of suffering in the form of opiate WD, only a portion of which was my own. It's hard won information, to be sure.

serget, way to go. the tyrosine seems to work fabulously. i have needed the sedative at night, but the clonidine and the tyrosine seem to be doing the trick for me as well. now if only could get my back to cooperate, but that seems to be ok at the moment as well. hope all is well and we stay focused and disciplined to beat the devil and the addiction. i am proud of you serge.
love to all.

Alexis, so glad to hear the recipe is helping you as much as it is. Music to my ears to be sure! I agree that the the L-Tyrosine can act as a mood brightener and just might have value for those fighting depression. It should indeed help overcome the maliase, (sluggishness) that seems to go with most forms of depression. Isn't is great to find an OTC non-drug natural substance that actually works? I pray The Man doesn't ban the stuff right when people are learning about it.

As for the recipe and depression, all I'd ask is that people thinking of using it for depression check with their doc or even the pharmacist to make sure L-Tyrosine is safe to use if one is already taking an SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) such as Prozac or Zoloft, etc. I uncovered some web info that suggests that L-Tyrosine might effect an increase (perhaps slight) of serotonin in the brain. Because of this, people should check this angle out with a health professional before using the L-tyrosine.

Preganant: Again, one should check with their doc to see if using L-Tyrosine is safe while carrying a child. I know that L-tyrosine is found in abundance in many foods we eat everyday. It is also one of the essential (required) amino acids to support human life.  I think it becomes a matter of safe dosages when expecting a baby faced babushka.

It's funny, I was reading a book years ago that was written by Dr. Slagle that states tyrosine is a good supplement for depression.  http://www.thewayup.com/products/0094.htm -- I don't think all of the other supplements that are in Thomas's recipe are mentioned, though (likemagnesium, zinc, manganese, etc.)

I have to concur that the recipe has helped me TREMENDOUSLY.  I have been exercising for 2.5 weeks straight just like I used to at the gym.  My depression has lifted completely and I'm feeling the energy that was gone for so long.  I would certainly recommend it to others, not just those who are quitting opiates, but those who need more energy or those who are depressed, etc.

Thanks all.
If you want to save a couple of dollars...try JUST the tyrosine.
If it doesnt work use the "recipe".  I think it will work fine.

Thomas, as you probably know tyrosine is one of the 20 amino acids 7 of which the body cant produce by itself...you have to eat them or die. Tryptophan is one, phenylalanine is another.
Tyrosine is just phenylalanine with an oxygen-hydrogen stuck on one end. Dopamine is tyrosine with an extra oxygen and one less carbon. Dopamine is what makes you feel better when you take cocaine or smoke.

No human trials on tyrosine in opiate withdrawal...after very extensive search on my part.
There WERE a couple of trials using it in cocaine addicts in rehab...these trials were negative.

I've decided that one cant really predict what will work or not because the brain has too many feedback loops, checks and balances.  The thing is if it works and it isnt dangerous then try it.
Love to all Serge.

Whether the recipe works and how it works,I don't need to know
the why's to it,I am using it and I haven't 'used' in 26 days.
If I were going thru the same old thing(Stopping to start again)
I wouldn't be feeling this good.I went to my local GNC told
the girl there what I needed and bought it.Since the first
24 hours I began to feel better.I have been on the recipe in
some form since last Sunday.Man,what a difference a week makes!
Thank you Thomas, you are famous.Write the Book before someone else does.                  peace,

Good for you, Serge! It says something that you can keep to the taper all the way. With me, I'm back up to a partydose by the second day and the taper's a distant memory. I would like to see a real study of Tyrosine, especially as it applies to recovery. Of course, as soon as they establish Tyrosine's efficacy, they'll reclassify it as a controlled substance.
