Ultram addicting

I went to my doc today and asked for something non-addicting, non narcotic if possible, that is stronger than advil but not as destructive as norco.  I was given a script for ultram.  He said it isn't addictive or at least is "less addictive".  Anyone have  experience with this med?

Ultram is less addictive than hydrocodone (especially in norcos since norcos usually have 10mg hydrocodone) And ultram is not classified as a narcotic like oxycodone, morphine, hydrocodone etc. However, there are quite a few people addicted to it having a very hard time with the withdrawals b/c it is still an opiate (opioid to be technically correct). Anyway It binds to your mu opiate receptors (one of the three types of opiate receptors in your body) The thing is that it doesn't bind quite a strongly to those receptors as hydrocodone does. When I take ultram I love it because I do not feel high at all. It feels like I have just taken a tylenol but it takes the pain completely away. Ultram is an "atypical opioid" It not only binds to opiate receptors but it also increases serotonin and norepinephrine and for some people the combination of the three really helps in pain relief. Have you taken one yet?

I hope this is helpful

Ultram is like tramodol both can be very addictive. I know it has small amounts of opium and is basicly tramodol/ultracet. Its a narcotic and Being in my current state after taking tramodol for 4 years I would'nt suggest it.

Thanks for your reply.  No I didn't fill the script, I was afraid to before checking in on this site for advice.  I apprecitate the information!  I was also given a script for Celebrex, which is supposedly not much more than a strong advil or aspirin.  Perhaps I should try the Celebrex first since he gave me a few samples.
Thanks again!

I would also strongly advice against taking Ultram, I was prescribed Ultram when in a lot of pain from multiple oral surgeries, and it really is an excellent painkiller, but highly addictive. In Denmark, where I live, it is recognized in the medical world that it can be very addictive - it should only be taken according to specifications in short periods of time.
I am currently withdrawing from Ultram (day 8) and it is no picnic!!!
Take care

Hello,
Yes, Tramadol is generic form of Ultram so they are the same thing.  Alot of people get addicted to Ultram but me? They get rid of pain and I can't imagine gettin' addicted to it.  If you are thinkin' about taking them, please take what is perscribed or less and stop taking them as soon as you can.  I noticed a few people on this forum that are having a very hard time getting off them.  My personal opinion (and this is just my reaction toward them and what my body does with them, everyone is different) they take the pain away and only a handful of people get high off of it.  I don't get high off of it.  But I was on oxy 30mg - 3 a day and percocet 10mg - 3 a day for 3 years?  Maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know.  And I was taking wayyyyyy more than what I was prescribed.  I still try to stop but the best I've ever done was 13 days c/t.  Now I just take a few a day then stop for a couple of days, then take a few a day.  I have somewhat a grip on my addiction but sooo veryyyy far away from stopping all together.  I'm at least a little better anyways though.

I hope this helps somewhat.  YOU ARE DOING SO GOOD.  I"M SOOOOO PROUD OF YOU!!!  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Take care and god bless, Lil.  :)

I have taken ultram in the past and it did nothing for me, didn't help w/pain nor did it give me a high. However for some reason  it lessoned  the severity of WDs.

OH yea, isn't ultram and tramodol the same thing?

By the way this is the first time i have posted, but I have been ?s and comments for a while.  It feels like I have been part of this forum for a while and that I know you all.  I guess I have been a "lurker" as some of you puy it.

Maybe I'll post and let everyone get to know who I am and all.  But I will keep "lurking" becouse theres alot of good advice and and experiance here.
