Ultram need to get off want to start a family

by maryshanprv31, Mar 15, 2009 11:26PM
I have been on ultram 8 tabs a day for 9 years. We want to start a family. I went on the meds for the treatment of fibromyalgia. How do I start? What should I expect? Should I go to detox? Just not sure what to do. I don't have any other addictions or meds to get off of. This is my last challenge.

8 tabs for 9 years.  Well, the short answer is to get off them you'll need help from your doctor.  Ultram (a.k.a. Tramadol) is very addictive and withdrawals can be nasty.  I was hooked on Vicodin (4 months ago) and Trams (one month clean) and I can tell you the vikes were easy compared to the trams.

You need to taper off them because trams pose a great siezure risk.  You need to see the doc, not only so he/she can supervise you w/d, but you will need some alternative pain management for the fibromyalgia.   Then hang in here.  We've all been there are ARE there.  We can help.

9 years is a long time, so talk to your doc and take it slow.  It is gonna hurt...this withdrawal is not easy.  I am here if you need  to talk :)

I've withdrawn from this a couple times.  You will want to taper slowly.  When I went CT, I felt like I was losing my mind for a month or so.  It was much easier cutting downaslowly.  You could probably cut most if out quickly until you get down to about 4 a day and then go slowly.

Has any one ever gone to a pain psyc? I went to a pain management person... who told me they didn't believe in fibro...  Not sure if I go to one will it hurt me later on with insurance.... Any thoughts?

To: Dear Mary,

Starting here is the first step! I had been on Ultram for over 4 years. taking the same dose as you. PLEASE check with your doctor and use the taper down method. I went CT. This is day 10 for me!  YEAH!!!!!!!  However the first week I wanted to die. Things are brighter each day and thank GOD I do not have any dersire to take the drug again. ( I think the withdrawal did this) :)

Keep posting here. That is what I did and it was a lifesaver for me.
