Ultram withdrawal

by lmdangerous99, Jul 10, 2008 03:10PM
After becoming addicted to Lortab I began taking Suboxone. It worked well and after a few months I was able to stop taking that also. A few months ago I had to get some serious dental work done and I explained to my dentist that I could not take narcotics and so he prescribed me Ultram. To make a long story short, the withdrawal symptoms that I feel when I am out of Ultram are far worse than I felt with Lortab, Percocet, etc. I tried suboxone for these withdrawals and felt completly wiped out and dizzy. I thought Ultram was safe and non-addictive. Apparently I thought wrong. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Im pretty sure ultram has some addictive potential  Not 100% tho   I think it might be narcotic free but it has something else in it.  I would call the dentist and ask him or tell him your problem  good luck

Hold you horses.... ULTRAM IS 100% ADDICTIVE!  It mimics the same thing in your brain opiates do, the DEA is looking at making it a controled substance and they should. I have read many stories about it becoming addictive in small doses as well. I thought SUBOXONE would releive the withdrawal though. Please read up on it, go to google and type in 'Ultram addiction" and you will find hundreds of stories, you can probably type in this forum as well. I was taking it too but was addicted to percs and LTs and used the Ultram to reduce withdrawal with them. I took them for about 1 1/2 years, started Suboxone 3 days ago and feel pretty darn good today. GL

yes it very addictive ,the WDs are hell . Most doctors wont prescribe sub for ultram WD is it working ?

by cattalina, Jul 10, 2008 03:38PM
You may have taken too much suboxone, if you felt like that.  Also, if the other pills are not completely out of your system before you take Sub, it can make things worse.  I took ultram years ago for knee problems and it never worked for me so I stopped taking it.  I had no idea it was addictive either until I came to this website.  You should call your dentist, considering he's the one who put you on them he should be able to help you.  hang in there!!

It's unreal that so many people have to suffer like this with different meds due to lack of information.  Kinda pisses me off!!

Thats too bad about the DEA. I guess the people in the DEA have never been addicts or have them close in their life. I agree with cattilina it pisses me off too. People beleive in their doctors and most of them do not have a clue about this stuff.  Hugs and kisses all

Exactly "people believe in their doctors".  In this country, we count on science and professionals to help us and to do what is best for us.  And I know that people should research what they're given before they take it, but if you trust the doctor handing you the script, why would you?  That's how alot of people end up crappy situations.  Isn't there anything that can be done about that???  Rarrrr.... makes me angry....sry

when i began taking the Suboxone for Ultram wd's i was taking the 2mg once a day instead  of 4mg twice a day for the Lortab wd. So maybe i wasnt taking enough. who knows. either way it's hell. i really do appreciate everyone's warm welcome. knowing i have people to talk to that have been through it helps. it just seems like Dr's would know more about the meds they are prescribing. especially with the money we fork over to see these dr's

by cattalina, Jul 10, 2008 04:14PM
I'm not sure how to compare mg with ultram/suboxone and what should work...  Are you still taking the suboxone for wds?

If you have had addiction problems.....You can not work for the DEA....Kinda weird....

by lmdangerous99, Jul 10, 2008 04:36PM
that is weird. who else better to know what is really addictive and not just pharmaceutical bs saying that its not. i am not currently taking suboxone because my script ran out. most dr's in the area i live are self pay and wont accept my insurance. however, i just added my name to a dr locator list where the dr will actually contact me. i have really good insurance through my job and cant really afford the price of self pay. but i refuse to give up and i refuse to let a pill run my life any longer. i have 2 kids and my godmother is taking them for the weekend. if i havent found a new sub dr by then, i am gonna flush the damn things and go cold turkey. the thought of that is scary as hell to me, but not as scary as living my life based on the length of a buzz from a pill.

If you look up Ultram, it says it is a "Narcotic-like" medicine. It also states that if you've had a drug addiction or alcohol addiction you should not take it.

That's enough to keep me away from it.

Ultram is horrible horrible horrible horrible. I've just come off tramadol (Ultram is brand name and tramadol is generic and Ultram has tylenol in it) .....  and after 21 days I only now have a feeling that I am NOT going to die and that I am going to get my life back.  Ultram/tramadol withdrawal is hellish. I really feel for you.

The Thomas detox REALLY helped me out.

I have writen alot about Ultram/Tramadol in my journal and the process of withdrawing and getting OUT. It ***** that a Doctor would tell us that it was"safe" and "No withdrawal" when in fact it is extremely dangerous. The more I research it the more justifiably angry I get. Also, every day my mind becomes more clear.

I feel for you and I have been on the drugs you have mentioned and yes Ultram withdrawal is sooooooooooo bad. Even at low levels. Even at the dose you are supposed to be taking. I used it for chronic pain and I actually now believe it made my chroinc pain WORSE. I am off it 21 days and for the last three days I haven't needed to ice myself down to sleeplike I have SINCE I started taking the drug!? Makes me very angry.

In May, Sweden did reclassify ultram/tramadol as a NARCOTIC and a dnagerous one.

I'm just sorry you are going thru this but MAN o MAN I know what you are going thru and I promise every day it will get better!

Love and healing,
Emily

God you guys. I have to get off Tramadol too. It's killing me. I don't even care about pain anymore. I WANT pain, for godsake. I need to taper off because if I have to engage in withdrawal, I have a 4 year old daughter to take care of, and if she suffers because of me, I will die. I need someone to help me here.

Is there anyway to taper off? Simply make the getting off Tramadol easier than cold turkey? I will do anything to make this as painless as possible. I feel better writing that!

by avisg, Jul 11, 2008 05:00PM
You should taper off of it it is VERY dangerous to CT off of it .Try dropping one pill every 4 to 7 days take it at the speed that works the best for you.
