Unconscious Consciousness?

by jmevolve, Jul 05, 2007 12:00AM
When a person consumes so much alcohol that they have a memory black out, what is governing their behaviour and actions during that time period if the conscious mind is not actively aware of what is going on?

good question,  I know that alcohol effects the frontal lobe which is the no and go portion of our brains.  The part of the brain that sets limits and inhibits.  During a blackout, I've had sober seeming conversations with people and don't remember doing it... I've also had some very bad things happen also and am glad I don't remember... I hope someone will come along an answer this one much better than I did.  We used to have the privilige of having a lady called, DutchessGolden here and she could answer great questions like that.

An alcoholic black out is quite similar to having conscious sedation. If some of you don't know what conscious sedation is, it's when you have a MIMOR medical or dental procedure that the Dr. need or wants one or two of the following things and they need you to be "blacked out" for this to happen.

They need to be able to control you body and/or put it in very incomfortable positions and they don't want you to remember it (and if you do it will  may be a couple of flashes like a dream)

They are going to cause are going to cause enough pain and.or dicomfort that they don't want you to remember it (and if you do it will be a couple of flashes like a dream)

Usually they use a benaodiazapam for this like halcion, versed etc...
