In my opinion.....tell your wife (and your kids if they're of appropriate age) and make a plan to detox straight off the pills. The subs won't really do much for 1 week and you'll go through w/d's anyway....would be better to just go off the opiates which takes 5/6 days. If you can make a plan, it can be done. I wish to God I wouldn't have found suboxone b/c all I did was switch from one drug to another (just like you did with alcohol). It's your decision, but I was on the opiates for 6/7 yrs and then got on the subs (to avoid the w/d) for another 6 yrs! My w/d from subs was 3/4 WEEKS not days and it sucked! I know all w/d ***** but this was really bad. Theres a Thomas Taper on this site that gives you a 3 day start to w/d with the least amount of pain possible and on the subs this taper doesn't really work b/c the w/d don't start until day 4/5 off the subs. Sit you wife down and TELL HER!!!! She will be your biggest ally in this process and can help you immensely. I told all 4 of my children what I was doing going through w/d and they and my husband supported me more than I can ever thank them for! You will need them...... That's what family is for, remember!!!! Good luck and let us know what you decide b/c there are people on here that can really help!
Just givin a shout out for support honey!! I agree with the above.
I think you will just trade one problem for another if you go the subs route......I would just do the c/t and ride out the symptoms, playin it like its the flu, then be done with it. You can do this friend......countless others here will attest to that.
stay around, good luck.
Ill tell you what, opiate addiction is a sickness a disease it doesn't go away. Here were my choices;
1. heroin- expensive, time consuming.
2Treatment center with 12 step.
3 methadone, which I've been on for 20 yrs no higher dose than 27mg in the last 3 years.
i would go to treatment and work the 12 steps if i were you
I would like to be off this methadone for good but i must have a support system.
Hello! I read your post and I think you can do this w/o subs. Subs are pretty bad from what I've heard. Worse than the opiates themselves to get off of. Bad News. I was on a cocktail of oxi's/trams/and vics for 3 years, everyday, all day long. Make a long story short, I'll spare you the gory details, I realized I had to stop all opiates, because I am an addict and could not take them as prescribed. So I went through w/d c/t. Looking back, I can say it wasn't so bad, but it was no cake walk. But doesn't take forever either. Maybe say you have the flu and get in bed and ride them out. As for your depression, you should get on a good anti-depressant, there are so many out there that work. I have depression too. But I wouldn't get to attached to those subs. Just a heads up!!
There is no get out of wd's card. Subs come with their own set of problems, Are you planning on going to a Sub doctor for these?
