Vicodin - I'm 17 days clean, but ....

by Jay, Sep 02, 1999 12:00AM

Hi,

I've been using Vicodin ES during the past 4-5 years gradually increasing to about 6-8 tabs a day during the past 2-3 years.

I tried many times to kick Vicodin on my own and was not successful. I went through Detox and am now 17 days clean.

My questions are:

1.) I'm still having minor muscle/bone aches and was curious as to how long I can expect to experience this?

2.) My vision is blurry/fuzzy, in many ways similar to the aura I experience before having a migraine. Is this a withdrawl symptom? Have any doctors here had patients with similar complaints when coming off of Vicodin or other opiates?

Thanks.

Jay

Dear Jay,

The aches and pains should continue to get better, gradually, as you stay clean.  You shouldn't be looking at your situation in an hour-to-hour or even day-to-day basis, but from week to week or month to month.  Each week should be somewhat easier than the preceding one, each month easier than the last.

I am not sure what to make of the visual symptoms and you should get that checked out by an Internist or a neurologist.

Make sure you attend lots of self-help meetings - staying clean can be more difficult than getting clean.

Dear Jay,
CONGRATULATIONS!! I am almost 2 months clean. I went into a treatment center to detox it was so hard and your body does ache. What I was told in the hospital was that if you take pain pills (opiates) it actually goes into your bone marrow! I was shocked, but that does explain the hurts you feel. My vision was also blurry it does go away. Keep your chin up don't falter.. Take it one day at a time One moment at a time. You will succeed! Good Job!!                                   Sincerly,
