Vicodin Addiction

Hi,
I have been taking Vicodin and then Norco on and off for almost 3 years.  I was involved in a really bad auto accident and at first needed them for the pain.  At first I would take 1/2 a pill 2x a day.  Now I am really not having that much pain and am taking 9 or 10 a day.  I really want to be off them because I have 2 wonderful children and I know I will have to keep upping my dose like I have been.  I am so upset that I got addicted to them because I used to really need them while I was in phyiscal therapy and recovering.  Not one of my drs ever said anything about having this hard a time geting off of them.
Well now I have to get off because my dr won't refill to mid June and I weaned done to only 2 pills for 2 days and today I have none and I am getting really nervous and uncomfortable.  I reallly want to be off this whole merry go round and always trying to work around the whole refill thing.  I am 31 and married.  Noone has any idea in my family that I still take the pills.
If someone has any advice please write back...I am so upset that I got myself in this sitution!!!  I just want to go back to how things used to be.
I have quit cold turkey  which was so painful, I thought I had the flu and then I realized what was going on,  before bc of not getting the refill and then I found a reason to take some again.
I want to know how to get off of these forever and get past these withdraws.
Thanks...

Thanks to all who posted!  I am really getting misreable here and am so scared!!  I think I may have been taking to much xanax  and I am out of that as well.  I usually take Xanax in between not having Vicodin...
Where is the Thomas recipe?  I might try and get that today.  I just had to drive to get my girls from school and I was crying the whole way...
I never drink and I had to do a shot of rum now to try and calm myself.
I have some Tylenol Pm for tonight, does that work well in this case?
God bless you too limodan73 and meg52080...

hey there - i can tell you that i really feel your "pain".  i am on day two of cold turkey of the same meds you were taking.  i too feel as though i have extreme flu along w/ tremors, sweating, jitters, etc.  so, i really do know what you are going through.  i also don't have anyone around me for support (secret addict who is extremely ashamed).  i also have two young children to look after.  i did go out to the health food store and got the things that comprise that thomas recipe (see below right) - i also got out yesterday and this morning and went for a 20 min. walk.  generally i am trying to stay busy (cleaning, reading, KIDS).  i think that i have brushed my teeth about 30 times in the last two days, and have had 3 showers and 3 baths (helped relax).  so take the supplements in the thomas recipe, long showers, baths, and just TRY to keep busy.  i will add you as a friend and will keep my laptop on - so update on your progress (i will too).  everyone on here is very supportive, just talking back and forth keeps yourself occupied.  good luck!

Getting past these withdrawals is the easy part...the "quitting these things forever" is the hard part...there is a wealth of info in the healthpages under DISCUSSION...get the thomas recipe and amino acid protocol...if u plan to taper off there is an article on tapering as well...if u like to read there is a book called "end your addiction now" that is wonderful to help understand the chemical processes that accompany addiction...staying quit forever is alot of work and after care is a must like meetings or support groups/counseling...posting daily is also good and there is alot of support here...u may should just work on getting thru this next few days right now tho...worry about the future a bit later...keep posting
