Vicodin Addiction

My sister started taking vicodin for a fall she had in Feb.  She started taking a few a day but she said her doesage wasn't enough for the pain and she was getting worse and started taking more, up to 10 a day.  I told her she needed to be careful that she didn't become addicted.  I think she is addicted now.  She keeps telling me that it feels like she is being stabbed by a knife in the middle of her back.  She went to a back specialist and they did a dye test and he didn't find anything wrong except astio authrist.  She thought she had three bulging disks but the doctor told her the exrays were read wrong.  I can tell when she is taking the vicodin because she talks very fast and doesn't act like she is in pain but when I ask her how she is doing she tells me that her back is killing her and she is in a lot of pain.   Could the back pain a sympton of the drug?  I have tried to explain what happens when you become addicted but she just gets upset with me because she doesn't think I beleive her that the pain is real.  I told her that the drugs will make her think there is pain so she needs more drugs.   What else can I do for her to help her understand what the drug is doing to her?  Thanks

That is very good advice that Naughtyone gave you,  You can only
help if she wants to help herself.  And yse I know for myself that every
time I wanted to give up the pills my back would tell me I was still in
a lot of pain.  It's the body's way of getting what it wants.

Everyone who takes narcotics for a period of time the body will become
addicted, that is a fact.  Most people will go through small w/d's and get
over it, but us addicts just take more and more.

Have your sister check out this site.

Maybe you can tell her to check out this forum to just see if there is anything she can relate too?  It's non-confrontational and she can make her own adult decision.  See if you can get her to just come here and read.  Good luck.

hey there and welcome, not sure how to tell you to make her wake up, but you are soo right i believe that she is addicted. the hard part for most of us (addicts)
is we keep telling are selfs "they gave them to me for pain" so somewhere we  mentally make are selfs believe we cant live or move without them.  but you are also right the pain probably seems worse to her because that happens on these things, and also makes us feel we arent addicts we take them for pain. in the begining i blamed the doctor for where i had went, but when i really looked at myself i saw they were just helping their patient that is still in alot of pain (which a doctor should do) and i was the one who began to take them in the wrong way for the wrong reasons. not sure if this helps at all, but i really hope you can make her see this is a rough road and she needs to try to get off these things. i wish you luck and are in my prayers.

i think the back pain is a reason to get the drug. she may be hittin the doc for another script. my buddy at work right now eats em like candy, buyin on the street when he cant get em. says his back hurts, but surgery wuz long ago, and i have witnessed him moving some big windows. so maybe ya  need to tell sis she needs to lose the pills , work some physicall therapy, and try some alternative non narcotic meds. best of luck for sis's sake
