Vicodin Help....

Hello Everyone....

I've been taking about 6 pills a day of Vicodin. I've stopped taking them about 5 days ago. It's a struggle to cope without them. Any advice on how long this feeling lasts or any suggestions??

Any help, would be much appreciated...

Thanks...
Marc

Congrats.  Keep it up.  It general takes 7 days to feel physically better and 10  days to feel vetter overall *kike you want to get out of bed).  There is a depression that goes along with giving it up, but it is best for you.  You need a mental health therapy to find out what the Vicodin was replace or filling in your life or you will go back to it.  TAKE MY WORD.  I HAVE BEEN THRU JUST ABOUT ALL THE PAIN MEDSAT HIGHER DOESES PER DAY, SOME WHICH ARE MUCH HARDER TO KICK AND HAD HORRIBLE WITHDRAWALSSYSMPTONS!!!  I did it though, but now in theray to find out why i wanted the pain meds and what I am missing in my life or the it is replacing.  Search with professional help.  I am NOT a conselor or doc, just a former fellower suffer trying to help you.  Let me know hoe you are doing and I will also be happy to discuss via private email if you need me.  Sometimes when things in life or work go badly you want that pain med so bad for its high, but you CAN NOT start or you will be right back.

I am still on day one. Yesterday afternoon I took one pill (a 10 vico) and got rid of the rest. I have been wanting to do this for a while and I was so freakin scared. I still am, but I am not running around the house looking for more. Instead I am in my room reading these stories, crying, and just trying to remember I will feel better very soon.My mom is helping me out but I think she looks at me as weak. And that is hard, but I am still going to do this. Hearing you say you are past a week gives me hope. I know I will make this I just have to do it one minute at a time.

Honestly exercise helps. Even if it is a long walk. Here is what happens. The first day after walking (no it doesn't feel good) the body will produce endorphins. This happens between 2-4 AM, sleep or not. Our endorphins have been all used up by the drugs. The next day when you walk, the endorphins you just made are released. Endorphins are our feel good hormone and they give energy too.

Thanks all for the comments...you really are making this easier for me. I am able to sleep at night no problems. My main problem are the days in where I feel soooo lathargic, but i know in time it will come back. I just have to remain positive.

Again...thanks for all your support it means alot!!!

Hi there.  You have come a very long way.  It started with your decision to stop, which beleive it or not, is the hardest of all of this bull.

You are counting the days as we all do, but can now proudly say that you're in your second week.  With your good attitude, before you know it, you'll be entering your second month!

In the beginning, everyone wonders "WHEN"........when will you sleep, have more energy, want to do things again, stop craving, etc.  Everyone is different, but please believe it when we tell you life's better without the dope.

Some may need to take pills again for medical reasons, but have learned not to abuse and get readdicted.  Doing things responsibily is part of this new life.  You will really like your new life.

Glad to write you and glad you're here.

Take care.  Hugzzz.

How long were you using? If it was over a year or you have had other episodes with addictions, even alcohol, then yes. You should join NA or something. Some use this forum, but NA sponsor will seek you out if you don't call!

Do you all think I need to go to meetings. I've been clean now for 7 days, I'm not really craving just lack of energy is my main issue. Hopefully, over time I will get there. This is the first time something like this has ever happened to me. I don't drink alot, I don't smoke or anything else. Obviously, started out taking them for pain, but got to 6 pills a day and finally stopped. I won't go backwards.....

Thanks..

I also lost a friendship and was not sure that my pill behavior did not have something to do with it....now that i look back, i dont think it did...was not an old friend or anything..I did not feel confident about my decisions and became passive...i feel confident now in my decisions and realize that was not my fault with the friend..i was getting so mixed up i was just withdrawing...not me at all...I am a lively fun person...i want to be again and am getting there

Re: what you said about why you took the pills, that's the reason most of us - us drug addicts - took them.  Go to meetings.

I was quitting because my wife starting seeing a change in my personality and when she saw I was taking more that what was prescribed on the bottle she got worried and started calling the Dr.'s I was going to. So, if it wasn't for her seeing all this, I probably wouldn't have stopped. i feel I haven't changed, but I guess that could be the meds talking, but who knows...that was my reason.

My main reason...the one that really pointed me in the direction to quit...was finances..every month I was having trouble paying my bills and sinking financially...Also, the pills started making me feel tired and depressed instead of the elation and energy...they will turn on you or perhaps I needed to up my dose..could not have afforded..or change drugs to oxy i guess..I have even heard heavy xanax users say they give them energy where at first they relaxed them...they eventually do not affect you in the same way...I was isolating and becoming extremely forgetful...anyway....why are you quitting?

Having my life run by pills. Do I have enough? Feeling emotionally dead and having to take them just to feel like I could do something. The euphoria was not there. Wanting to have my life back!

I'm not sure how many might post back on this, but what made each of you quit? Was there something inside you that said this isn't good? Some intervention? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks..

I always felt the most normal at night...but I was a daytime user...during WDs I would look forward to evenings because I felt sane....dont know but guess it was because my body wasnt used to getting them at night

It takes time for the body to re-regulate itself. Every area has been abused and needs to be rebuilt.

I for some reason lost my taste for coffee during detox and if you are feeling anxiety I would avoid it...geen tea is my substitution and I do not get the anxiety...I have started drinking 1 red bull each am as I have an awful time getting moving in the morning..never have been a morning person plus we just had the time change and lost one hour..red bull also has B12 in it is why I chose it over the other energy drinks...I was careful with my caffeine intake when I had some anxiety during WDs...you have to play it by ear and drink caffeine depending on how you feel...if you are feeling anxious...do not drink it
