Vicodin Withdrawal Info

by DirtAngel, Dec 27, 2007 09:27AM
My neurologist prescribed Vicodin for me 11 months ago. Two months ago I asked her to decrease the Vicodin from 660 to 500's. A week ago I told her I wanted to try and change from a codeine medication and she gave me Balacet 325. I am aware after this long that I am going to be experiencing Vicodin withdrawal and I'm afraid. My doc is on vacation through next week ad I was thinking maybe asking for Tyleno #3 to wean my body off slowly, but I'm thinking that might just be rationalizing taking more codeine. Where may I find what withdrawal symptoms I should expect and how I will know when withdrawal may become life threatening (what to watch out for, as opposed to simply what I'm going to have to endure.) I was taking 2 1/2 f the 500's twice a day. Will the Balacet help the withdrawal symptoms? I took it once and I suspect I'm having adverse effects because I hate the way it makes me feel. I'm afraid of taking the Balacet. The pain seems to be the lesser of the two - the way the med makes me feel and the way I feel without taking it. If I'm honest with my doc, will she help me with tapering off slowly instead of stopping suddenly after 11 months? I mean, do doctors really do this to help patients? Sorry, lts of questions here. I'm scared!

This is some info I got off of another site. It has to do with opiate withdrawal, symptoms, and what to expect. Hope this helps. I'm going through most of these right now. Good luck!

I have done both taper and c/t.  Tapering is hard because you will still feel uncomfortable and knowing you still have some in the reserve might be hard to resist taking. now am finishing day 5 of c/t off morphine and vicodin.  The first 3 days are like a very bad flu. When you reach day 4 the psychical part lessens.  If you are asking for your dr help some xanax will help with the cramping and ambien might help with sleeping.  Good luck sounds like you really want to quit and that is when you can.

be careful with the balacet. it is darvocet. it is an opoid and is just as addictive. why not just cold turkey? your dosage is small. you would probably feel normal in one week. just flulike symptoms for about three days followed by lack of energy for awhile. i think you have a fighting chance to be drugfree relatively quickly.

I agree with all....I would just bite the bullet and do it now...you are not on alot so i don't think it will be as bad....Flush the balacet , it will only prolong it..
you are very lucky you are not on a higher dose, but i promise you if you keep going it will only get worst....get your life back now..
good luck and god bless
