Vicoprofen taper off (ween)

I've been taking vocoprofen, 7.5/200 average 12 a day for the past 3 years. Sometimes taking more for social functions, activities etc. I am suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, and have recently started injections of Embrel which have been addressing the pain nicely.  I want to discontinue the narcotics. This is my decision, I'm sick of depending on pills...worrying about...do I have enough, when's my next script due, can I get it early, extra scripts from specialty Drs. to take more etc. etc. I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!! My Dr. and Therapist are on board with this. I'm a stay at home dad with kids. In AA for the past 14 years. This however is something my sponsor doesn't even know. I want to get this behind me by Spring.  Any experience, strength, and hope out there regarding this?  Thanks

Glad to see you back.

First, you need to tell your sponsor and I think you know that. Keeping that secret is not good for your recovery.

Let us know if you plan to taper or cold turkey. We can recommend or suggest things that have worked for us.

The sooner you are off these evil pills the better you will feel.  Have you told your doctor what is going on?  Let us know your plans.           sara

I was on vicoprofen alot i was taking over 30 per a day, that is alot in august i took my self down from over 30 to 7 in one day it felt like i went c/t, but i stuck with this set amount for serval weeks until I made myself adjust to that medicine dose, and it was hard really hard, but after that i was able to take myself off of them fairley quickly after that, good luck.........., thats how i made it but everyone is different

My dr. knows exactly what's going on...I was brutally honest with him. He's going to work with me to taper off. But, it's me with the 100 pills and I have been praying and doing the right thing with them so far.. ONE DAY AT A TIME...I will tell my sponsor. I"ve done 2 5th steps with him so I just need to bust him the news...I agree...We are a sick as our secrets...thanks, Zappa

I am glad you were honest with him and he is going to help you.  Do you have anyone that can hold the pills for you and dole them out?  Bust the news to your sponsor, you will feel so much better when you do.  Keep us posted on how you are doing.......sara
