WDs from prescribed opiates

My brother is taking 20mg oxycontins after serious shoulder surgery.  I seriously doubt he will become addicted but will he have withdrawls after he finishes taking them for 10 days ? Just curious, i told him to be cautious with oxycontin but he doesnt have an addictive personality and its what his doctor prescribed him so he thinks its the right treatment.

It is doubtful that 10 days will cause any discomfort when he quits.

I remeber when I was younger mysister had her wisdom teeth pulled and was given loratab liqued she could not tolerate the way it made her feel but used it twice for the worst pain and then switched to tylenol. I on the other hand finished it off for her, I had had hydrocodone before from and injury and remebered the nice fuzzy warm feeling it gave me so I finished it off for her. I was not responsible with opaites

Just makes sure he doesnt fall in love with the euphoria. And make sure that he understands the importance later, in that he never takes other peoples medication or buys just a couple off of friends here and there to get the same feeling or to use when or if his shoulder continues to bother him.

The doctor will most likely keep prescribing him this medication if he ask wether he really needed it or not. I have heard of a lot of people going back and asking for a few more because the pain is still there or later swithching doctors and taking pain medication and complaining of lingering pains.

So really you have a resonsibility with this medication to yourself to be honest with your self and not the Euphoria and only use it for pain. Most people who have injuries never use the full course of there pain medication they usually do not like the effect at first ;like nightmares and naseua and discontinue as soon as possible to like a motrin 800 or tylenol.

Beilieve it or not...the majority of people do not get addicted to narcotics when taken as prescribed for pain especially on a short term basis...if he has no addiction history i would think 10 days would be ok
